Call for Projects: Brooklyn Falls for France

New York, April 11, 2019—The Cultural Services of the French Embassy will distribute grants to support cultural projects across Brooklyn as part of its upcoming program “Brooklyn Falls for France”, a locally-focused cultural season, slated to take place from September 2019 through January 2020.

Home to large Francophone communities, Brooklyn is known for its cultural diversity, independent art scene, distinct neighborhoods, and architectural heritage. Brooklyn Falls for France aims to highlight the borough’s vibrant Francophone cultural life, underscoring the cross-cultural dialogue between Brooklyn and the many countries where French is spoken.

“The French Cultural Services has collaborated with cultural institutions in Brooklyn for decades, including BAM, the Brooklyn Museum, National Sawdust, Pioneer Works, the Brooklyn Public Library, the New York Media Center and more,” said Bénédicte de Montlaur, Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy. “The Brooklyn Falls for France program will allow us to further support the rich Francophone cultural activities in Brooklyn at all levels. We hope that the Brooklyn community will come together to make this project something distinctly their own.”

The call for proposals is open through May 22, 2019. Individual grants of up to $5000 will be distributed to over a dozen projects selected by a jury. In addition to financial support, grantees will be included in all Brooklyn Falls for France-related communications.

Artists and institutions working across all cultural disciplines, including theater, dance, music, the visual arts, cinema, literature, poetry, new technologies, and the culinary arts, with projects involving Francophone cultures, or the French language, and which are slated to take place in Brooklyn and begin between September 2019 and January 2020, are eligible to apply. The application deadline is May 22, 2019. Grantees will be announced in June 2019.
