Albertine, New York’s Only Full-scale French Bookstore Celebrates its Third Anniversary

On September 14, 2017, Albertine, the bookstore and reading room located within and operated by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York, will celebrate its third anniversary.

To mark the occasion, Albertine will offer guests a complimentary “Proustian” tasting of madeleines and a glass of cider imported from France among Albertine’s shelves, which house more than 15,000 works of classic and contemporary Francophone fiction in French and English translation. The tasting will take place from 2-6pm on September, 14.

Festivities will culminate at 6pm with a visit from renowned French Baker, Eric Kayser, who is recognized as one of the foremost artisan bakers of his generation, and the name behind Maison Kayser, the international French bakery that arrived to New York in 2012 and has since opened several bakeries and full service cafes across Manhattan and Brooklyn. For the occasion, Kayser will prepare a special birthday cake. Guests are invited to attend a cake cutting ceremony with Kayser, where he will also present his latest cookbook, published in English, Maison Kayser’s French Pastry Workshop (Black Dog & Leventhal). The event will conclude with a book signing.

Since Albertine opened its doors in September, 2014, it has made its mark as one of New York’s most important bookstores and cultural venues. Over the past three years, it has welcomed more than 100,000 visitors and organized more than 260 events with prominent French and American authors, intellectuals and artists on subjects ranging from literature, history and politics to art, design and gastronomy, all free and open to the public.
