Each year, French Language Assistants are placed in schools across all 50 U.S. states through the French Teaching Internship (FTI) program. At the same time, the Embassy of France, in partnership with France Éducation international, places English Language Assistants in French schools across metropolitan France, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Réunion Island through the Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF).

The French Teaching Interns Program

The French Teaching Internship Program (FTI) gives American bilingual public schools the opportunity to host a French Language Assistant, strengthening French dual-language and immersion programs while providing additional support to teachers and students.

FTI interns support classroom teachers, lead small-group activities, and work with students individually to strengthen their French language skills. Through engaging activities and cultural exchange, they encourage students to express themselves in French while bringing authentic linguistic and cultural perspectives into the classroom.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, host schools must:

• Be accredited and offer education at their respective K-12 level​
• Be an established, accredited institution in operation for at least 1 year and must provide its Federal Employment Identification Number (EIN).​
• Offer a minimum of 32 hours of internship activities per week to the teaching assistant

FTI Grant

Part of the French Dual Language Fund, this grant provides financial support to schools to help cover the cost of hosting a French Teaching Intern for one year.
