From April 18 to April 28, 2024, join the Embassy of France in the United States and Xavier Gillet for Sport et olympisme dans les médias workshops just in time for the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The upcoming Olympics present a unique opportunity for the promotion of the French language and the unifying values of sports.
Through sports, the French language can effectively convey vital messages to the modern American audience, encompassing themes such as gender equality, combating discrimination, sustainable development, and climate change.
Since fall 2023, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy has organized a series of educational initiatives including film screenings, pedagogical trainings, lesson plans, and school contests, all aimed at providing enriching experiences for French language learners.
In this sprit, we invite all educators and teachers in Washington DC, Raleigh, Houston, San Diego, and San Francisco to take part in a FREE in-person professional development workshop.
Brought to you in collaboration with the Centre de liaison de l’enseignement et des médias d’information (CLEMI), these workshops offer a promising opportunity for professional advancement and collaborative exchange.
Description
Starting from concrete examples, participants will discover themes related to sports journalism, in terms of journalistic techniques and reporting on media events.
Participants will analyze and conduct an interview and a sports commentary, while learning to identify and use these exercises’ specificities. Finally, participants will recognize the role of the media’s image in sports news and propose examples of online pedagogical activities related to the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to identify the specific genres of sports journalism (interview and commentary) and know how to analyze a media image in the domain of sports.
Furthermore, participants will be able to share this newfound knowledge through discussed pedagogical activities.
