Creative Writing in the French Classroom: 4th Symposium on Teaching French and in French in Florida

In partnership with the University of Miami, Villa Albertine Miami invites teachers and professors from Florida for the fourth edition of the Symposium on Teaching French and in French in Florida, dedicated this year to creative writing: "Imagine, Express, Learn."

Launched to bring together and strengthen Florida’s community of French teachers and university professors, the symposium gathers teachers of French as a foreign language and teachers working in French in bilingual, accredited, and immersion programs. Traditionally held every two years, it returns this year, one year after the 2025 edition, in response to strong demand from teachers themselves.

After a 2025 edition focused on the changes artificial intelligence brings to teaching, this year’s symposium turns to what remains at the heart of language learning: writing, imagination, and the ability to create meaning. Long established in the United States and increasingly recognized in France, creative writing is not about training writers. It uses writing as a tool to express ideas, experiment with language, tell stories, and build confidence, making French not only a language to learn but a language to live and make one’s own.

Combining reflection, shared experience, and hands-on practice, the program will feature talks, testimonials from educators, and participatory workshops. Participants will leave with approaches, activities, and tools they can bring directly into their classrooms.

At a time when AI tools are deeply reshaping our relationship with writing, this edition highlights what makes human learning unique: the capacity to imagine, to create, and to make language a space for expression and thought.
