Deputy Director in Charge of Development and Partnerships

Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education, is offering a full-time position, Deputy Director in Charge of Development and Partnerships. This is a fully in-person position based in New York City starting April 14, 2025.

I. Brief Presentation

Villa Albertine is an institution of the French Embassy in the United States, supported by the French government and Albertine Foundation. Its mission is to strengthen ties between the United States, France and the French-speaking world through culture and education. Present in 10 major US cities –– Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Washington, DC – it is headquartered in New York’s historic Payne Whitney mansion on Fifth Avenue.

The Deputy Director in charge of Development and Partnerships is stationed at our New York headquarters and reports to the Director of Development and Communications. This role contributes heavily to crafting and executing a fundraising strategy that drives the organization’s success. Job duties encompass all stages of the fundraising process, from sourcing potential donors, to pitching projects, cultivating meaningful relationships with benefactors, and reporting. Tasks also include internal coordination and organizing fundraising events, among others. By securing support for Villa Albertine’s remarkable and varied portfolio of projects, the Team Manager has an opportunity to make a lasting impact. The Department consists of eight members, organized into two divisions: 1.) Communications and 2.) Development and Partnerships.

II. Job Description

Under the supervision of the Department’s Director, the Deputy Director is responsible for overseeing the Development & Partnerships division staff and ensuring the successful completion of the following tasks:

Enhancing the Organization’s Development Strategy

  • Contribute to the creation and execution of Villa Albertine’s partnerships and fundraising strategy, ensuring alignment with its objectives.
  • Identify new prospects and funding opportunities, including corporations, foundations, and philanthropists.
  • Design and oversee partnership and fundraising campaigns.
  • Develop revenue-generating initiatives related to the Villa Albertine headquarters, such as space rentals.
  • Monitor trends in philanthropy to inform strategic decision-making.

Managing and Cultivating Partnerships

  • Build and nurture strong relationships with existing donors and partners.
  • Develop and present compelling, tailored partnership proposals.
  • Oversee the administrative management of partnerships and ensure benefit fulfillment.
  • Assist in organizing exclusive events for donors and partners.
  • Manage and maintain the contact database (CRM).
  • Monitor the financial aspects of partnerships, including budgets and balance sheets, and prepare impact and annual reports for donors.
  • Coordinate the processing of French governmental awards (Légion d’Honneur, Arts et Lettres, etc.).

Internal Coordination and Project Management

  • Collaborate closely with Villa Albertine’s various departments (administrative teams, programming teams, and 10 offices across the US) to implement partnership initiatives, offering advice and strategic guidance.
  • Oversee the production of communication and reporting materials for donors.
  • Track partner commitments and highlight their contributions.
  • Provide administrative support to the Albertine Books Foundation and its Board of Directors.
  • Organize and manage team activities while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

III. Profile Insights

Professional Experience and Skills

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing fundraising and partnership strategies.
  • Skilled in negotiating and maintaining relationships with institutional and private partners.
  • Proficient in utilizing communication and marketing techniques applicable to philanthropy.
  • Well-versed in the regulatory and tax frameworks governing philanthropy.
  • Proven skills in budget management and reporting.
  • Master’s degree in management, communications, marketing, law, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in philanthropy, fundraising, or partnership development and team management.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English and French.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (including SharePoint)
  • Experience with contact management tools appreciated
  • Social networking skills (sense of trends)

IV. Job Details

  • This is a 100% in-person position based in New York City: Institut Français des Etats-Unis – Villa Albertine, 972 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10075
  • At Will employment with a 6-month trial period.
  • Occasional availability for events on weekends and in the evenings.
  • Benefits:
  • Gross Salary: from 5,921 USD/month to 6,751USD/month, depending on experience, full-time basis with a monthly transportation allowance of $120.
