Overview
The Transatlantic Research Partnership (TRP) offers a 2-year grant for collaborative research projects, jointly implemented by US-based and France-based scholars. This program inseminates an interdisciplinary community of France- and US-educated researchers, supporting their mobility and strengthening their research’s impact on academia and communities.
The TRP is also the incubator for ambitious projects and the gateway of US-educated scholars toward EU collaborative projects implemented in France, such as the ERC grants, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, or Cost Actions among others. Moreover, this program commits to facilitating the international practice of research and socialization of Ph.D. candidates and early career scholars.
The TRP additionally supports research activities, including transatlantic mobility, engaging with one or more United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SDG framework offers a broad set of priorities and applicants are expected to clearly demonstrate how their scientific efforts fall into this theme. More information regarding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is available here.
Eligibility
At least two scholars from two different disciplines affiliated respectively with a French and a US research institution are eligible to apply as vice-PIs. They should both hold a Ph.D. degree at the time of application deadline and have a maximum of eight years of research experience from the date of the award of their PhD degree. Both must have a contract covering the duration of the grant. There is no restriction in terms of nationality.
Benefits: A fellowship of up to $20,000 over 24 months (about two years) is offered to cover the cost of research activities (including travelling costs, accommodations, fees related to the status of visiting scholars, if necessary) and dissemination initiatives (from the organization of scientific events to editing costs).
Visiting researchers in the United States are invited to contact the TRP program manager prior to their arrival, in order to benefit from the support of the cultural and scientific services of the French Embassy in promoting their work and developing their professional network.
Selection Criteria: Groundbreaking research projects addressing the UN SDGs. We particularly invite applicants to engage with – without necessarily being restricted to – one or several of the following research issues: “Digital Revolution and Society” (UN SDG 7, 8 and 9), “Health, Climate and Sustainability” (UN SDG 3, 6, 13, 14, 15), “Democracy in Crisis” (UN SDG 1, 4, 5, 11, 16).
All the proposals should emphasize how they will contribute to building a transnational long-term relationship and involve PH.D. candidates.
First-generation scholars and scholars from under-represented populations and territories, including overseas territories, are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Timeline and Guidelines
Applications should include a common cover letter, the CV of the applicants, including their list of publications, a 1,500-word research proposal including the expected outcomes and strategy of dissemination of the results, and a 1-page comprehensive budget.
