2024 French Cultures Festival
Festival
March 20 - April 20, 2024
Explore the annual, month-long French Cultures Festival (FCF), celebrating French-speaking cultures and communities in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
From March 20 to April 20, cultural institutions, educational organizations, and artists will organize events related to the French-speaking world. The festival fosters over 50 events each year, welcoming several thousand attendees over the month. The events center on visual and performing arts, music, cinema, literature, conferences and lectures, French language education, and gastronomy.
The festival serves as a platform for French-speaking communities to showcase their unique traditions, art, and linguistic nuances, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the French language and its global cultural influence as well as a deeper sense of identity and pride among Francophones and Francophiles alike.
“Celebrating La Francophonie is recognizing the potential of language and culture to unite people, to create spaces of solidarity and mutual understanding, to reflect together on our common future.”- UNESCO
The French language is spoken by nearly 321 million people, 61% of whom are in Africa. As such, promoting the Francophonie is a meaningful way to celebrate the cultural and linguistic diversity that makes up the world. Each year, on March 20th, the United Nations, alongside the International Organization of La Francophonie, celebrate the official Francophonie Day to recognize French language and Francophone culture.
The French Cultures Festival starts on the official Francophonie Day as a symbol of international diversity.
