Villa Albertine is pleased to welcome residents Çağla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti for a screening of their film “Sibel” on February 6th.
Villa Albertine is excited to host a screening of the film “Sibel,” starring Damla Sönmez and directed by Çağla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti. The movie will be screened in Turkish with English subtitles.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Villa Albertine residents Çağla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti.
25-year-old Sibel lives with her father and sister in a remote village in the mountains of Turkey’s Black Sea region. She is mute and communicates by using the ancient whistled language of their region.
Despised by her fellow villagers, she relentlessly hunts down a wolf sneaking into the neighboring forest, sparking fear in and wonder among the villagers. There she crosses paths with an injured and vulnerable fugitive, who is the first one to see her differently.
A Turkish-French couple, Çağla Zencirci and Guillaume Giovanetti have been co-directors and partners since 2004. Their feature films include “Noor” (Pakistan, 2012 / Cannes Acid), “Ningen” (Japan, 2013 / Toronto), and “Sibel” (Turkey, 2018, Locarno).
In 2018 and 2019, “Sibel” was invited to more than 100 festivals, the recipient of 40 awards, and successfully released in many countries, including France, Turkey, Germany, and the US, with more than 200,000 admissions.
Attendees must have a ticket registered in their name and a government-issued ID matching the name on the reservation to enter the Embassy, or will not be able to enter the premises. Print tickets are not required. Due to strict security measures, please arrive on time and allow extra time for the security screening.
