Villa Albertine x LitCrawl: Writing Migration, Curated by Hemley Boum

This Saturday, October 21st, join us for an evening of readings and performances curated by our current resident, Hemley Boum. Boum will read from her most recently published novel, Days Come and Go, in both French and English, and will be joined by participants of her Oakland-based workshops, Writing Migration. The evening will also feature musical performances by West-African kora star Karamo Susso.

Boum’s most recent work, Days Come and Go, tells the story of three generations of women living inside and outside the borders of Cameroon, experiencing the rise and fall of personal passions and national power. Through the words of the novel’s protagonist, Boum emphasizes once again the transformations of her country, and the identity questions that are at the heart of her writing. Her current workshops in the bay area explore the region’s Francophone heritage and what it means today to be someone from elsewhere.

This event is presented by Villa Albertine in partnership with Litquake, Two Lines Press, Maison noire americaine, and the Francophone Charter School of Oakland.
