French films and wins at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards

Each year, the Spirit Awards brings together top talent from throughout the world of film and television. In addition to traditional categories such as Best Feature and Best Director, the Spirit Awards features a number of unique honors such as Best First Screenplay and the John Cassavetes Award. For the third consecutive year, the Spirit Awards will recognize outstanding achievement in uniqueness of vision, innovation and boldness in TV and streaming in addition to feature film. And for the second year, all acting categories (Best Performance, Best Supporting Performance and Best Breakthrough Performance, in both Film and TV) are gender-neutral.

This year French films were among the many deserving nominees in multiple categories. Passages by Ira Sachs (2022) was nominated for Best Feature. Two French documentaries were nominated for Best Documentary, Bye Bye Tiberias by Lina Soualem and Four Daughters by Villa Albertine resident Kaouther Ben Hania. And for Best International Film, Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall was a nominee.
