In May, French Cinémathèque, a monthly curated discussion series about French movies, features A Prophet by Jacques Audiard.

On Monday, May 20, join film industry expert Aude Hesbert as she hosts a discussion about A Prophet directed by Jacques Audiard, starring Tahar Rahim, Niels Arestrup, and Adel Bencherif. The film was France’s submission and Best Foreign Language Film nominee at the 2010 Academy Awards!

Sentenced to six years in a French prison, Malik El Djebena is alone in the world and can neither read nor write. To get by, he aligns himself with a powerful Corsican mob boss, steadily working his way up through the ranks, until his success brings him into conflict with his mentor.

This event will be on Zoom and is free and open to the public. The event will be in English with some French vocabulary. Please make sure to watch the film before the discussion. A list of streaming channels that offer the film can be found here.

Mark your calendars and check back here soon for details on June’s French Cinémathèque discussion as talks in English will take place on the fourth Monday of each month.
