Two French projects have been nominated to compete in the 2023 SXSW festival’s XR Experience Competition.
The SXSW XR Experience, March 12-14 in Austin, TX, showcases outstanding immersive projects by talented international producers for SXSW attendees.
Virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality technologies are finding new ways to enhance our ability to perceive the world that surrounds us and are redefining how we experience the world. The projects presented in SXSW XR Experience emphasize storytelling and art in the immersive world.
This year, two XR projects have been nominated to compete in the SXSW 2023 XR Competition.
Jailbirds – The Eye of the Artist (France, Belgium)

“Jailbirds” takes place in a modern hell prison ruled by a vicious Chief Warden. But in this living nightmare one guy, Felix. One tall, muscular gang member is always happy. He lives in serenity and peace of the mind spending his days between crayon drawings and meditation. It enrages the Chief Warden. For him, the inmates are here to suffer and pay their debt to society. So he’ll do everything he can to discover Felix’s secret. (World premiere)
JFK Memento (France, U.S.)

60 years after President Kennedy’s assassination, “JFK Memento” chronicles the events of November 22, 1963 and the investigation that followed. Across six chapters narrated by the last living witnesses, journalists and investigators who lived through the events, this documentary is a historically accurate record of these 48 hours that changed the world. Dive into the defining moments of the investigation as archive photos and films come to life, re-mastered in 3D and re-projected onto the historic sites as they were back in 1963. Produced in collaboration with the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas and with the support of Meta Immersive Learning, “JFK Memento” is a narrative learning experience. (World premiere)
