Du 4 mai au 25 août, découvrez la nouvelle exposition conçue et produite par la Villa Albertine, dans quatre quartiers différents de Chicago,  dont certains lieux non conventionnels et communautaires.

Opening Passages présente le travail de dix artistes émergents, français et américains qui explorent les dynamiques sociales de Chicago et Paris. Les approches particulières de chacun des photographes mettent en lumière avec nuance et justesse les processus de redéfinition urbaine en cours dans les deux villes.

L’exposition interroge les notions de frontière, d’identité culturelle, l’expérience de l’immigration, le rapport aux espaces publics, et aux environnements bâtis; elle s’intéresse aux marges et met en lumière quelques trajectoires individuelles au cœur de ces deux villes mondiales.

En complément de l’exposition principale présentée au Chicago Cultural Center, trois autres lieux et espaces communautaires – 6018North, BUILD Chicago et Experimental Station– accueillent d’autres versions de celle ci, avec d’autres œuvres, sélectionnées pour leur résonnance particulière avec les quartiers où ces institutions sont situées.

Des projections et conversations seront organisées notamment à l’occasion des vernissages pour favoriser le dialogue entre les artistes et créer les conditions d’un échange fructueux avec le public.

Opening Passages s’inscrit dans le vaste programme Art Design Chicago, initié par la Terra Foundation, qui se déploie à l’échelle de la ville et vise à mettre en lumière le patrimoine artistique de Chicago et ses communautés créatives. L’exposition relève également du programme City/Cité de la Villa Albertine, et plus particulièrement de Clichycago, plateforme de collaboration à l’initiative des Ateliers Médicis et de la Villa Albertine à Chicago, qui a pour ambition d’encourager un dialogue transatlantique multidisciplinaire sur les questions urbaines dans les deux villes. Depuis 2021 Clichycago repose notamment sur des résidences croisées et réunit divers acteurs pour nourrir cette conversation : chercheurs, artistes, architectes, journalistes, urbanistes, militants communautaires, professionnels de la culture et leaders politiques.

Alliance française de Chicago

The Alliance Française de Chicago is over 120 years old and is part of an international network of over 1,100 Alliances and affiliated cultural centers worldwide. It is the second oldest Alliance Française in the US and second largest after the Alliance Française in New York City. Previously known as FACE Foundation, Albertine Foundation is an American nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting French-American relations through innovative cultural and educational projects.
