Albertine Cinémathèque Festival at Duke University

Join the Center for French and Francophone Studies at Duke University, Albertine Cinémathèque, and Screen Society for a French Film Festival from January 26-February 10, 2024, featuring 7 French-language films.

With support from Albertine Cinémathèque, and in collaboration with Screen Society, the Center for French and Francophone Studies at Duke University is organizing a sharply curated French Film Festival on January 26-February 10, 2024, offering a selection of cutting-edge recent releases by a new generation of filmmakers such as Davy Chou, Alice Diop, and Mathias Gokalp and legendary classics by Jean Eustache and Jacques Rivette. The cinematic gem 1973 La Maman et la Putain will be screened in a gorgeously restored version from 2022. Touching on topics such as militantism in the 1970s, feminism, jazz music, racism, multicultural identity, the wide range of films and filmic genres is a feast for cinephiles and film novices alike. Each screening will be introduced by specialists and followed by an interdisciplinary Q&A session to foster dialogue. Held in the Rubenstein Arts Center Film Theater, the film series is free and open to the public.
