Villa Albertine, the French Institute for Culture and Education, is offering a full-time position: Development and Partnerships Officer. This is a fully in-person position based in New York City. The position will start on November 1, 2025

I. Brief Presentation

Villa Albertine is an institution of the French Embassy in the United States, supported by the French government and Albertine Foundation. Villa Albertine’s mission is to strengthen ties between the United States, France, and the French-speaking world through culture and education.

In the arts and culture sphere, we encourage collaboration among French and US-based organizations and provide creators, thought leaders, and professionals with customized residencies, immersive networking experiences, grants, and connections with audiences, so they can explore and share new insights into society’s pressing issues.

In the field of education, we craft projects and programs aimed at making French language and culture accessible to young US-based audiences, expand opportunities for students to study and complete internships in France, and support partnerships between French and American higher education and research institutions. 

Villa Albertine is present in 10 major US cities: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Washington, DC. It is headquartered in New York’s historic Payne Whitney mansion, home to Albertine, our bookshop and nexus for French-American intellectual exchange.

The Development and Partnerships Officer is responsible for overseeing all the fundraising and partnerships activities and their expansion. His/her main goal is to support the implementation of the strategy defined by management regarding expanding the private funding which finances our cultural, linguistic, and academic cooperation initiatives, such as artistic residencies, the Lafayette Fellowship, and many other programs.

II. Job Description

Overview

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director (Development and Partnerships), the Development and Partnerships Officer is responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with Villa Albertine’s patrons and partners, including prospecting, follow-up, and reporting. The Officer ensures the accuracy and updating of partnership data and coordinates relations with the Villa’s two principal partner foundations (the Albertine Foundation and the Albertine Books Foundation).

The Officer also provides support, as required, for the organization of Villa Albertine’s internal events and contributes to the drafting and revision of English-language communications, including speeches, statements, correspondence, grant proposals, and sponsorship files.

Key Responsibilities

Development Activities:

  • Contribute to the drafting of reports and proposals for partnerships or grants, in liaison with the department manager, and ensure the follow-up of deadlines with the sectoral departments involved.
  • Draft preliminary notes and reports for management in conjunction with partner appointments.
  • Update the database of patrons and prospects, including documenting background and follow-up notes, in the contact management tool (CRM).
  • Active participation in researching potential partners, partnership and fundraising intelligence, drafting documents, and categorizing prospects.
  • Ensure that all commitments made to partners are respected. This includes ensuring the accuracy of honors and citations when mentioning donors, as well as the execution of privileges and rewards granted, including invitations to events.
  • Liaise with the Albertine Books Foundation and Albertine Foundation, 501(c)3 partners of the Institute and the Embassy’s Cultural Services, and provide donor management support.
  • Assist the Communication team with VIP mailing lists.

Event Support in New York:

  • Organization leadership of the partnering foundation events/board meetings.
  • Provide logistical support for the organization of events at the Institut Français’ headquarters in New York, in particular for events organized by donors and patrons.
  • Provide assistance to the Event Operations Coordinator, especially in the event of their absence, ensuring the smooth execution of events.

General/Editing:

  • Revise texts prepared by the various departments of the establishment for management to improve clarity, style, grammar, and brand image, messaging, and mission.
  • Writing grants, reports, and other written communications to maintain relationships with key partners.

III. Profile Insights

Education/Experience

  • B.A. required, ideally in a related discipline (nonprofit management, international affairs, business…)
  • Proven experience in managing projects and event planning.
  • Ideally, the candidate will have knowledge of the American philanthropic landscape and experience in development or fundraising.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills are essential.

Language Requirements

  • English (reading, speaking, writing): bilingual or native speaker
  • French (reading, speaking, writing): advanced or bilingual

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (365 and Sharepoint), InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite, and CRM software preferred.

Professional Qualities

  • Autonomy and excellent organizational skills required
  • Very strict attention to detail required
  • Strong adaptability and skilled in problem solving
  • Outstanding ability to work well under pressure, on a broad variety of projects in a fast-paced environment

IV. Job Details

  • This is a 100% in-person position based in New York City at the Institut Français des Etats-Unis – Villa Albertine (972 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10075)
  • At will employment with a 6-month trial period.
  • Occasional availability for events on weekends and in the evenings.
  • Benefits:
  • * Gross Salary: from 5,363 USD/month, full-time basis with a monthly transportation allowance of $120.

  •  This position does not entitle the holder to any diplomatic or consular status or privileges.

Candidates must already have legal authorization to reside and work in the United States. This includes holding an A visa, a green card, U.S. citizenship, or a pending work permit for an already-approved green card. Only applicants meeting this requirement will be considered.
