Internship – Alliances Françaises USA Network – French Embassy in DC

I. Description

The Alliances Françaises USA network intern is responsible for the administrative work associated with historical documentation  projects on the network past and present, including working on the preparatory steps towards the TV5 MONDE shooting series scheduled for September 2027 in four American cities and Alliances Françaises as well as collecting and managing a database on the strategic topic of the future of the Alliances Françaises in the USA.

II. Roles and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the AF USA Coordinator, the intern will

  • Manage and create reference documents on the evolution of the AF USA network with the help of annual data collected on 104 Alliances.
  • Carry out administrative work prior to TV5 MONDE’s 2027 shooting in the USA, contributing to the selection of four cities and AFs to be targeted for the documentary; preparing the shooting crew’s itinerary and budget; and anticipating the drones overflight approval in the targeted locations.
  • Preparing and supporting the strategic 2027 topic of the future of AF in the USA, including creating surveys aimed at teachers of AF, trustees and presidents of AF, and executive directors; preparing workshops on the topic to collect feedback; organizing a student hackathon on the topic; and conducting outreach to future and potential members of AF in different communities (e.g. families, schools, and companies with a French presence).

    III. Eligibility Requirements and Necessary Skills

    Desired Professional Experience/Skills

    • Experience with administrative work 
    • Experience with Alliance Française or being a French learner is a plus

    Knowledge

    • English: reading, speaking, writing – native speaker 
    • French: reading, speaking, writing – B1 minimum

    Required Qualities

    • Proactive approach and good interpersonal and relational skills 
    • Maturity, autonomy, initiative 
    • Ability to manage work independently 
    • Ability to work with a network (104 AFs in the USA)

    Eligibility

    • Candidates must be enrolled full time in an American university or college 
    • Candidates must be 18 years of age or older 
    • Candidates must possess and provide proof of civil liability insurance for the duration of the internship

    IV. Job Details

    • Workplace : Institut Français des Etats-Unis – Villa Albertine 4101 Reservoir Rd NW, WASHINGTON DC 20007 
    • This is a 3-month in-person internship of 10 hours a week split across 2 or 3 days depending on the student’s schedule starting in October 2026.  
    • Students should be in their third year of undergraduate course work or higher, preferably studying international relations, French, business administration, or a related field.
