Founded in 1885, the museum was originally located on Jefferson Avenue, but, due to its rapidly expanding collection, moved to the current site on Woodward Avenue in 1927. The Beaux-Arts building, designed by Paul Cret, was immediately referred to as the “temple of art.”

Fern Books is a small press unhurriedly dedicated to forms of writing, and ideas about publishing, that are thoughtful and generous and expansive. They are interested in literary risk-taking, adventures in form and content and authorship, and the connections and relationships fostered between books and their readers. They aim to think out loud, as it were, about whose imaginations literary text can stir, what makes text literary in the first place, and what shapes besides bound printed matter it might take. As they work on answering these questions, they plan to publish books—among other things—that they believe make the world a more enchanting, welcoming, and sane place.

New Directions Publishing was founded in 1936, when James Laughlin (1914–1997), then a twenty-two-year-old Harvard sophomore, issued the first of the New Directions anthologies.

836M is an innovative foundation based in San Francisco that brings contemporary art to life through exhibitions and by supporting emerging and established artists. A.I.R. Gallery (Artists in Residence, Inc) is a feminist, not-for-profit, artist-run cooperative gallery for women and non-binary artists. Founded in 1972 by a group of twenty women artists, A.I.R. provides an alternative space for risk-taking by artists who exist on the margins of the contemporary art world and the art historical canon.
Founded in 1985 and originally dedicated to the MIMI Festival, the AMI association works for the artistic, cultural, civic and economic development of the territories, in a spirit of general interest. AMI supports several initiatives in the CCI sector and more particularly in the creation and music production sector, at a national and international level. Its field of action covers in particular the organisation of artistic residencies, festivals, and a cultural incubator.
The Académie Goncourt was founded by French writer Edmond de Goncourt. At his death in 1896 he willed that his assets be used to support this literary society, helping to ensure that each year ten writers would award an annual prize to a “work of great imagination in prose”. The Goncourt Prize (Prix Goncourt), first awarded in 1903, quickly grew into a mark of great prestige, launching winning authors into major domestic and international success. On November 3, 2022, the “Academy of Ten” will announce the 120th Goncourt Prize.

The Atelier National de Recherche Typographique (ANRT) was created in 1985 by the French Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, with the aim to “contribute to the development of type design and typography”. It is now an established research unit within the ENSAD Nancy, in the campus ARTEM. AWARE: Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibitions is a non-profit organisation, co-founded in 2014 by Camille Morineau, art historian and specialist in the history of women artists. To counter the underrepresentation of women in the art world, AWARE seeks to rebalance the presence of women artists by giving them more visibility through the publication of free resources. The bilingual French/English website provides more than 900 biographies for women artists from the 19th and 20th centuries as well as articles and interviews written by researchers and curators from around the world.
Created in 1972 and serving as the Centre chorégraphique national (CCN) since 1984, the Ballet national de Marseille has been directed successively by Roland Petit (1972-98), Marie-Claude Pietragalla (1998-2004), Frédéric Flamand (2004-14), Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten (2015-19). At its direction since 2019, (LA)HORDE has continued the BNM’s policy of artistic openness and collaboration while also redefining those concepts with respect to the changing digital era and political issues of inclusiveness. The collective has imagined the BNM as a safe space, a place to reflect on the dynamics of representation and the circulation of artistic forms.

Banlieues Bleues (which means “blue suburbs”), non profit association originally funded by 12 towns of Seine-Saint-Denis (on the outskirts of Paris) runs since 1984 the festival of the same name, a key event in the French musical season, offering an artistic platform of international repute where creativity and revelations occupy a large place of the bill. Through a wide range of workshops called “actions musicales” it has also assumed the pioneering job of heightening awareness and sensitivity, together with musical training, for the general public and particularly for new audiences. Throughout the year, Banlieues Bleues runs also its own venue, La Dynamo, a musical complex located in Pantin welcoming cutting-edge concerts and also residencies and rehearsals.
Founded in 2015, Barberousse Films is the reunion of three producers, Mathilde Delaunay, Enguerrand Déterville and François Martin Saint Léon.
Since its creation, Barberousse Films has produced some twenty short and feature films, including those by Pierre Léon, Pascale Bodet, Momoko Seto, Mihai Grecu, Pascal Cervo, Marie Losier, and Pierre Menahem, which have been awarded and selected at major festivals (Cannes, Locarno, FID Marseille, Tribeca, Rotterdam, Annecy…). Created in 2014, the Library of the Americas is an initiative of the Center de la francophonie des Amériques, an agency of the Government of Quebec. It is accessible to its members for free whether they are, for example, from Brazil, Colombia, Haiti, the United States, Canada, etc. The Library of the Americas provides free access to thousands of digital books by French-speaking authors from the Americas. Its unique offer is diversified and also specialized. It collects, preserves and disseminates French-speaking documentary heritage or relating to French-speaking communities in the Americas.
The BnF (National Library of France) looks after unique collections, brought together for five centuries. It preserves more than 40 million documents: 15 million books and journals, one of the finest collections of manuscripts in the world, 15 million iconographic documents (photographs, prints, posters, etc.), maps, plans, scores, coins, medals, theatrical sets and costumes, audio and audiovisual documents, video games to which the billions of files collected since 2006 have been added as part of the legal deposit of the French web.
Located in the Centre Pompidou, the Bibliothèque publique d’information has been open to all since 1977 — six days a week and free of charge. Measuring at over 10,000 square meters in size, the library welcomes nearly 1.5 million visitors each year. It provides access to multidisciplinary collections, and holds many discussion panels and cultural events including in the field of documentary films.
Bleu Danube is a visual experiment, a living platform, creating walk paths between different disciplines with classical music as its central point. Our aim is to create and develop an interest and passion for classical music where there is none. About 200 films have been collected, of which 145 have been donated to the French Cinémathèque.
The International Glass and Visual Arts Research Centre (Cirva) is an art centre that places creation at the heart of its project. Occupying a unique position on the world stage since 1983, it invites artists and designers to work with a precise material, glass, in an atmosphere of total freedom. At the Cirva’s studio, they are met by a team of very high-level glass technicians with whom a dialogue begins. Created in 1998 and based in Bourogne, the Espace multimédia Gantner is a place for discovery, experimentation and research for digital art, be it historical or new. FACE Foundation is an American nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting French-American relations through innovative cultural and educational projects. Bernard Utudjian has been running Polaris Gallery since 1990, on rue Saint-Claude, in Paris, before moving to the current space at 15 rue des Arquebusiers. Since the early years on, the gallery has always focused on presenting emerging artists. Real platform and revelator of talent, it is thus that Polaris gallery realized the first exhibitions of artists of international recognition today like Yto Barrada, Sara Ouhaddou, Speedy Graphito or Marcos Carrasquer… With sharing and meeting as his leitmotiv, Bernard Utudjian welcomes in his gallery multidisciplinary artists that the notion of commitment to creation unites. Polaris Gallery embodies an experience of more than 30 years in perpetual evolution, which best embraces the evolution of contemporary art.
Inspired by the great art dealers of the 20th century, Galerie Sultana opened in Belleville in 2010 as a lab for artists to experiment. It supports French and international contemporary art through exhibitions that promote young artists and represent more established artists. For most of the artists, the gallery shows their first exhibition in France or in Europe.

Jonas Films is an independent film production company, founded by Elsa Klughertz in 2015. The company works with directors from different backgrounds – cinema or contemporary art – and from different countries – France, Taïwan, Iran or Turkey. Jonas Films has produced ten short films (selected at La Berlinale, Rotterdam, Cinéma du Réel, Go Short, New Directors New Films) by directors with whom the company has committed to produce their features. L’Onde is Vélizy-Villacoubay’s performance venue and art gallary. The town of Vélizy-Villacoubay is situated in the Île-de-France region, south of Paris. L’Onde hosts up to 50 shows and 4 exhibitions per year. l’Onde offers a contemporary, multidisciplinary annual program including theatre, dance, visual arts, music and circus arts. l’Onde also has a mission of accompanying artists, either confirmed or emerging, through artist residencies.
Since 2010, the Compagnie Tangram has produced more than twenty creations of the OZMA ensemble as well as cultural actions for all audiences, both in the Grand Est, in France and everywhere in the world.
La Ferme de Bel-Ébat is a performance hall set in an old monumental farmhouse. Local theatre, it offers a rich and varied program for all ages. All disciplines of live performance are represented. It schedules between 40 and 50 shows each season, and organises between 110 and 140 performances.
Located near Paris, a former farm of the 19th century, the Scène Nationale La Ferme du Buisson is a unique place, dedicated to the arts and culture, their manufacture and dissemination. It has an Art & Essai Cinema, a Contemporary Art Centre of national interest, and several theatres.

La Madeleine is a conventional theatre of national interest. Its programme is multidisciplinary: theatre, dance, circus, young audiences and new magic. It has a strong commitment to artistic and cultural education for young audiences and is supported by two artists in artistic research residencies.

La Muse en Circuit, National Center for Musical Creation, is dedicated in all its activities to music that decompartmentalizes the field of sound art, new and even innovative music, emancipated and audacious, whether instrumental, electronic or mixed, whether deepen the paths of sound alone or also explore other artistic territories, such as literature, theatre, dance, video or the visual arts. La Muse en Circuit is also concerned with research, ensuring the digital technology watch essential to the development of the music of tomorrow.
La Place, a place of expression dedicated to hip hop music, has for mission to promote all the aesthetics and artistic practices of the hip hop cultural movement, as well as its extensions in the visual arts or cinema, through actions of diffusion, transmission, support to creation and accompaniment. Located in the heart of Paris, under Les Halles’ « Canopée », La Place is equipped with a concert hall, a broadcasting and creation studio, an exhibition space, a bar and has 8 creation spaces, adaptable to all practices (recording, rehearsal, video editing, graphic arts, dance…)
Opened to the public in March 2016, La Pop is an artistic and civic incubator, a place for residencies, research and experimentation. It is a production structure and a place for multidisciplinary creations that questions the roles and functions that music and sounds play for the individual, communities, society or ecosystems.

Its unique system of financial support for creation set up by the CNC in 2007 for digital experiences has allowed the production of many major works, regularly presented and awarded in festivals around the world, and the emergence of artists.
In order to allow the French cultural network abroad (French Institutes, Alliances Françaises, cultural services of embassies) to discover the creativity and diversity of French works internationally, the Institut français is making available, thanks to the VR Selection, more than thirty virtual reality works for non-commercial distribution, within its spaces or those of its partners.
Classified into three themes – Fiction, Documentary, Arts and Heritage – the works in the VR Selection present, through their diversity of subject and form, a rich and varied selection representative of French creation in virtual reality.
La vie brève is a company directed by Jeanne Candel, Marion Bois and Elaine Méric, which has been opening up different creative territories for more than ten years and decompartmentalizing disciplines. Its keystone is the entanglement of theater and music: playing with opera from pre-existing works and deepening this exploration, thus creating an implicit braiding where we no longer know if the music drives the theater or vice versa. Managing the Aquarium Theater located at the Cartoucherie since 2019, la vie brève hosts residencies of around twenty artistic teams per year, three of which participate in all activities of the theater for 2022-2024.
Founded in 2004, La Volte is an independent publishing house that publishes novels, novellas and collections of short stories by French and foreign authors every year. Animated by a horde, constantly moving, of friends and enthusiasts – “les volté.e.s” – La Volte creates original object-books, mixes emotional experiences through the association of books and music, with, always, an artisan approach. The editorial line crosses the literatures of the imagination, in particular science fiction, and so-called “white” literature. The requirement of writing and imagination encourages authors to create singular works, sometimes unclassifiable, stories that find a natural place in the publications of La Volte.
LATTS is a multidisciplinary research center in the humanities and social sciences, specializing in cities and territories, public action and work. Based on the observation that technical worlds are of particular and growing importance in spatial, societal, economic, and political transformations, it focuses on understanding how infrastructures and technical devices are shaped by the various social worlds in which they are inserted and, conversely, how they contribute to transforming them. Through numerous field surveys, the work carried out within the laboratory has a triple ambition: to practice a demanding interdisciplinarity, to affirm the principle of a solid empirical support for research, and to encourage debate and theoretical production. As a joint research center, the LATTS brings together researchers and professors from the CNRS, the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech and the Gustave Eiffel University.

les Abattoirs, Musée – Frac Occitanie Toulouse opened in 2000 in a nineteenth-century heritage building renovated to house modern art exhibitions and presents the work of contemporary artists. Les Abattoirs is home to permanent art collections, a media library, a visitor’s hall, studios, an auditorium, a bookshop, and a restaurant. Its art collections, as well as works by other various artists, are circulated within the Occitanie region, in direct association with the local inhabitants and stakeholders.
Les Films Hatari is an independent French film and television program production company founded in 2002. Its ambition is to support films that seal a committed narrative with strong cinematography, with strong potential for financing and marketing on the French, European and extra-European markets. French. Since its birth, Les films Hatari has produced around fifty films, most of which have been screened at festivals around the world.
Historically the first national creation centre in France, created in 1986, Lieux publics was awarded the label “Centre National des Arts de la Rue et de l’Espace Public (CNAREP)” in 2017, and also obtained the designation “Pôle européen de production” that same year. Lieux publics is a place of creation and production, a shelter for artists and companies who utilize the city as the place, the object and the subject of their creations. The Maison de la danse is a theater located in the 8th district of the city of Lyon. It was initially founded in 1980 within the walls of the current Théâtre de la Croix-Rousse before moving in 1992 to what was then called the Théâtre du 8e. This stage, head of the network for dance in Rhône-Alpes, ensures a programming of national and international companies as well as the programming of young companies from Rhône-Alpes. It also hosts companies in residence in a special creation studio and has a reference documentary base on dance with a video library of more than 1000 filmed shows.
The Maison des écritures contemporaines d’Aix-en-Provence (MéCA) is a place of creation, residency and multi-disciplinary programming, called to promote the arts of narration. Born from the movement of the new literary scenes, the MéCA is part of it in a singular way by taking the decision to unite literary writing with other artistic writings, whether they are sound, scenic, graphic or digital. The MéCA offers a place to work on stage with the aim of giving space and time to emerging and established authors and artists in a process of producing literary objects for the stage and new proposals that are part of the public space.

The Théodore Monod Museum of African Art is located on the plateau, in the heart of Dakar. It includes two main neo-Sudanian and colonial style buildings, workshops and studios. The primary mission of the Théodore Monod Museum of African Art at IFAN Cheikh Anta Diop is to preserve and enhance the cultural heritage of Senegal and of Africa as a whole. As guardian of the collective memory of the cultures of Senegal and Africa, the Théodore Monod Museum of African Art aims to be a space of remembrance, dialogue and bringing people together. It celebrates difference and cultural diversity to stimulate understanding between peoples.
Born in 1825 from an appeal for donations, the collections of the Orléans museums are today divided between the Musée des Beaux-Arts, the Hôtel Cabu – Musée d’Histoire et d’Archéologie and the Museum for Biodiversity and the Environment. The Musée des Beaux-Arts hosts one of the main French collections of European art from the fifteenth to the twentieth century. Its history, the result of a longstanding philanthropy, is the basis for the recent redeployment of 1,100 works in a narrative museography.
The first of its kind, this institution will be a place of remembrance, a museum of history and society, a platform for documentation and research, and a center for educational programming, lectures and debates. It will complete a commemorative mission that already includes the French National Medal of Recognition for Victims of Terrorism, the French National Day for Victims of Terrorism, and the creation of the French National Resource and Resilience Center. Victims, survivors, those wounded both physically and psychologically, as well as first responders and relief workers (fire fighters, rescue workers, police officers and gendarmes, doctors, community members) are at the heart of the mission at the Museum and Memorial of Terrorism.
The MoCP is a world premier college art museum dedicated to photography. Founded in 1976 by Columbia College Chicago as the successor to the Chicago Center for Contemporary Photography, the Museum of Contemporary Photography began collecting in the early 1980s and has since grown its collection to include over 16,800 objects by over 1,800 artists. Smith and Mme Jeanne Harouel Greenleaf founded this first French House in the United States in the summer of 1918, with the support of their colleagues in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The embodiment of the Wisconsin Idea, the French House is a language immersion residence for UW-Madison students and a French & francophone cultural learning center for the greater Madison community and the State of Wisconsin.
Emerging technologies are both local and global. Tech innovation coming out of Silicon Valley and elsewhere has major ripple effects throughout the entire world, dominating our lives in both positive and negative ways.
By placing artists within tech R&D teams at the heart of the global tech industry, in Silicon Valley, we allow art thinking to positively influence tech development processes. Additionally to our rapidly growing network, our new activities build on the findings of our investigation, published in The Grid – Art + Tech Reports of 2019 and our recent The Grid – Art + Tech Report of 2020.

The Grid is a global network connecting artists and technologists. It was launched in Silicon Valley and has since transformed into a global multi-stakeholder platform of artists, technologists, cultural institutes, global art institutions, policy makers, and tech companies.

The Grid follows an ambitious vision: We want to incorporate art-thinking into the development of new technologies and to jump-start a conversation between artists, technologists, and policy makers from around the world.
To meet this challenge, artists and technologists must come together, to imagine, to make, to create.
Since 1932 the Institute of Fine Arts has been dedicated to graduate teaching and advanced research in the history of art, archaeology, and conservation. The Institute has a faculty unrivaled in the breadth and depth of its expertise and in the range of its visiting lecturers from top museums, research institutes, and conservation studios. The Institute has conferred more than 2,700 degrees, and its alumni hold leadership roles as professors, curators, museum directors, archaeologists, conservators, critics, and institutional administrators throughout the U.S. and internationally.
The Foundation’s work has included the underwriting of public spaces. This includes being the largest supporter of Washington’s Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the principal donor for the Emmett Till Exhibit at the National Museum of African American History and Culture, a major donor to New York’s Statue of Liberty Museum and to Washington’s United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and an early donor to Chicago’s Obama Presidential Center, its latest effort after decades of assistance on Chicago’s south side.
In connection to French culture and history, it has long been helping Notre Dame restoration and has only accelerated this work since the 2019 fire; the Louvre Endowment; and to education on Holocaust and Deportation scholarship including the 1988 Academy Award winning documentary., Hotel Terminus, the Life and Times of Klaus Barbie.

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center (MESTC), The Graduate Center, CUNY, is a non-profit center for theatre, dance, and film affiliated with CUNY’s Ph.D. Program in Theatre. Originally founded in 1979 as the Center for Advanced Studies in Theatre Arts (CASTA), it was renamed in March of 1999 to recognize Martin E. Segal, one of New York City’s outstanding leaders of the arts. The Center’s primary focus is to bridge the gap between the academic and professional performing arts communities by providing an open environment for the development of educational, community-driven, and professional projects in the performing arts.
As a result, MESTC is a global home to theatre scholars, students, playwrights, actors, directors, dramaturgs, and performing arts managers, as well as both the local and international theatre communities.

Since 1966, the Writers Guild Foundation has been the premier Hollywood resource for emerging writers and entertainment lovers. A 501 nonprofit organization, the Foundation’s mission is to preserve and promote the history and craft of writing for the screen. WGF supports the community through various programs, including their Veterans Writing Project, their Volunteer and Mentorship Programs, their Archive, and the Shavelson-Webb Library – the world’s only library devoted entirely to writing for the screen.
Théâtre de la Ville – Paris entirely devotes its ressources to performing arts. It creates and promotes modern and contemporary, french and international pieces but it is also committed to supporting young artists and to pursuing the creation of artwork for audiences of all ages. Directed by Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota, every year Théâtre de la Ville – Paris presents more than 100 multidisciplinary artistic projects : theatre, dance, musics and shows for young audiences.
The Théâtre du Nord is a Centre dramatique national (CDN) located on Grand’Place in Lille and at L’Idéal in Tourcoing. David Bobée has been appointed director since March 2021. His project is focused on opening up to all audiences through demanding, accessible, and popular shows, gender equality for directors, and diversity on stage. The program of the Théâtre du Nord features texts from the repertoire or alive authors, served by the esthetic of the contemporary and transdisciplinary performing arts (dance, music, circus, video, visual arts, etc.).
Les Gémeaux is a « National stage » located in Sceaux (92). With its three halls, including a jazz club, the national stage offers a multidisciplinary programme based on three principal disciplines : theatre, dance and music.
The Théâtre Louis Aragon, an accreditated dance center, is a multidisciplinary venue that places creation and residencies at the heart of its project. Its “Territoire(s) de la Danse” program focuses on exchanges and encounters between communities, artists and their creations. At the same time, the Théâtre Louis Aragon co-directs “La belle scène saint-denis” every summer in Avignon, with a program of its artists in residence.
The Théâtre National de Bretagne (TNB) traces its roots back to the very creation of the Centre Dramatique de l’Ouest in 1949 and of the Maison de la Culture in 1968 (a merger took place in 1990). As a European center for theatrical and choreographic production, emphasizes not only theater, but dance, music, cinema and education. The TNB organizes an annual international Festival and supports the School of the Dramatic Arts. The TNB welcomes about 200,000 spectators every season. Since 2017 the actor and stage director Arthur Nauzyciel has led the TNB and has introduced an artistic project grounded in 3 fundamental values: Share, Transmit, Connect. In addition, he appointed 18 associate artists, joined by another 10 other artists in 2021.
Since the founding of the Théâtre National Populaire by Firmin Gémier in 1920, Chaillot has welcomed artists and audiences in a place whose architectural, historical and artistic dimensions have created a symbol: a theater at the service of creation and audiences in their diversity. In 2000, Chaillot diversified its programming by opening up to the choreographic arts to become, in 2008, the first National Theatre “to have a project built mainly around and from dance” and in 2016 took the name of Chaillot – Théâtre national de la Danse.

Triangle-Astérides is a center for contemporary art of national interest based in Marseilles at La Friche la Belle de Mai, a cultural cooperative located in a former tobacco factory, since 1994.
Triangle-Astérides articulates a rigorous program of exhibitions with research residencies for artists from international and French scenes outside Marseilles, Associate Artists from the local scene (complementarily with the Marseilles City Studios), to which are added events, editorial projects and a thorough outreach to all audiences.
Triangle-Astérides is part of international networks (notably the Triangle Network, which initiated the founding of Triangle-Astérides which remains a member while operating independently), as well as national and local networks (with the merger, in 2018, of Triangle France and Astérides). Connecting these different scales is at the heart of all its activities.
Mindful of each individual’s needs, Triangle-Astérides ensures, to the best of its ability, the accessibility of all its programs for the audience as well as for the invited artists (the building is accessible to persons with a disability; and upon request tours can be offered in French Sign Language and through audio description).

The University of Aberdeen Department of Archaeology is partnering with the village corporation Qanirtuuq, Inc. and the Yup’ik village of Quinhagak on a large scale archaeological project. Archaeological sites, as well as the modern infrastructure in the region, are threatened by melting permafrost and rising sea levels along the Bering Sea. Our work focuses on the Nunalleq site, a 14th-18th century pre-contact Yup’ik village with exceptionally well-preserved organic remains. Since 2018, we have been processing finds in a Quinhagak-based lab in the newly opened Nunalleq Culture and Archaeology Center.

Wakatoon Studio is an educational app that transforms colored images into a cartoon with content tailored to teachers’ needs with special Wakatoon-compatible content coloring books, booklets, or cards in French and English. The Chicago International Film Festival was started in 1964 by filmmaker and graphic artist Michael Kutza to provide an alternative to the commercial Hollywood movies that dominated the city’s theaters.
