Dove Allouche Returns to Peter Freeman, Inc.

 Peter Freeman, Inc. is pleased to present Villa Albertine resident Dove Allouche’s works from three recent series: Absorption Lines (2018-2019), a series of platinum prints that break light signals down into vertical shadings of gray; the Repeint series (Repainted, 2019-2021), photographic enlargements of side-on views of layers of paint; and the I.R series (2016-2018), which includes 153 drawings in silver oxide, based on the entire corpus of glass plate negatives left by Isaac Roberts. 

About Peter Freeman, Inc.: 

Peter Freeman, Inc., founded in 1990, represents leading international artists and the estates of several generations. It specializes in important paintings, sculptures, and drawings of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, with a particular emphasis on early Pop, Minimal, and Conceptual works. The gallery is a member of the Art Dealers Association of America. 

About Dove Allouche: 

Dove Allouche was born in 1972 in Sarcelles, France, and he currently lives and works in Paris. Recent projects include a public commission for the library of the INHA – Institut national d’histoire de l’art – in Paris, solo presentations at Le Grand Trianon, Galerie des Cotelle, Château de Versailles (May 2019), as well at The Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2018), and Préhistoire et Modernité, in the Centre Pompidou (Paris, May 2019). His work has previously been the subject of solo exhibitions at Fondation Ricard, (Paris, 2016), and Centre Pompidou (Paris, 2013). His work is included in several museum collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and Centre Pompidou, Paris. Allouche is one of 80 residents participating in the inaugural season of Villa Albertine. 

About the exhibition: 

Experimenting with various scales and depths, Dove Allouche seeks, in the Absorption Lines and Repeint series, to bring objects into the realm of the visible and to the foreground, using photography, telescopes and microscopes.  

In the Repeint series, the depth of the brush stroke depicted in the fragments echoes the overarching movement. The miniscule fragments, once brought together, make the hand behind the brush tangible. The I.R series focuses more on the ritualized process of testing images against their own motifs and arguments. 

Dove Allouche establishes unsettling analogies between states of the visible, scales of space and time, and foreshortened perceptions.

Dove Allouche is a resident of the first season of Villa Albertine. His exploratory residence, in partnership with Art Explora and les Beaux Arts de Paris, will take place in Houston, one of the 10 cities in which residents can pursue their work. 

Villa Albertine is a new French institution for arts and ideas in the United States created by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and supported by the French Ministry of Culture.
