Based on social and ethnic tensions and inspired by the 1960s civil rights movement in U.S.\u00a0cities. Workshops with New York-based artists from Africa and the Middle East such as\u00a0dancer Hussein\u00a0Smko\u00a0(Iraq), actress Okwi\u00a0Okpokwasili\u00a0(U.S.-Nigeria) and musician Layale Chaker (French Lebanese)\u00a0will take place during spring 2022 with a fully live performance in fall 2022.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>FA\u00a0<\/em>by\u00a0Amoukanama\u00a0Circus\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Performance Spaces for the 21st Century (PS21), Chatham, NY\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Summer 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Residency of\u00a0Circus\u00a0<strong>Amoukanama<\/strong>\u00a0from Guinea,\u00a0during summer 2022 at\u00a0PS21,\u00a0Chatham,\u00a0in New York.\u00a0\u00a0Amoukanama\u00a0(in the Susu language, \u201cWhat does not break always persists\u201d) is a young and dynamic circus founded by <strong>Nathalie Vandenabeele<\/strong> (equestrian) and<strong> Alseny Sacko<\/strong> (acrobat), whose members originally chose circus as a means of survival. Free workshops and performances by the circus will be organized for Chatham\/Hudson public schools and young audiences during this residency. The artists from Circus\u00a0Amoukanama\u00a0collaborated with the multidisciplinary artist Anthony Weiss\u00a0for the production of\u00a0FA\u00a0that will be presented during the residency, and then tours the United States.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Performances by Daniely Francisque\/Guy Regis Junior\u00a0and\u00a0Felwine\u00a0Sarr\/\u00c9tienne\u00a0Minoungou<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Princeton\u00a0University\u00a0\u2013 Seuls en sc\u00e8ne Festival, Princeton, NJ\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>September 2021 (postponed to September 2022)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Etienne Minoungou in <em>Traces<\/em>, by Felwine Sarr<\/p>\n<p>Princeton University, NJ,\u00a0will\u00a0present\u00a0<strong>Daniely\u00a0Francisque<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<em>Moi,\u00a0Fardeau\u00a0Inh\u00e9rent<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>Guy\u00a0Regis Jr<\/strong>.,\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Etienne\u00a0Minoungou<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<em>Traces<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>Felwine\u00a0Sarr<\/strong>\u00a0at Princeton French festival\u00a0Seuls\u00a0en\u00a0sc\u00e8ne\u00a0in September of 2021\u00a0(now moved to September 2022).\u00a0<em>Moi,\u00a0Fardeau\u00a0Inh\u00e9rent<\/em>\u00a0denounces sexual violence and harassment toward women.\u00a0Traces, speech to African Nations,\u00a0written by author-scholar\u00a0Felwine\u00a0Sarr\u00a0and performed solo by Etienne\u00a0Minoungou\u00a0(Burkina Faso)\u00a0is\u00a0a lyrical text that looks at the history of the African continent and points purposefully toward its future.\u00a0Sarr, renowned for his research on repatriating objects of African cultural heritage from collections\u00a0in France, wrote this text as a vast odyssey, a journey toward a bold engagement: his continent looking at itself and at the world, in service of the future of its youth.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>It\u2019s not\u00a0here,\u00a0it\u2019s over here<\/em>\u00a0by Compagnie\u00a0Galmae<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Rochester Fringe Festival, Inc., Rochester, NY\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summer 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><em>It&#8217;s not here, It&#8217;s over there<\/em> by Juhyung Lee-Compagnie Galmae<\/p>\n<p>Rochester Fringe Festival, Inc., NY,\u00a0will\u00a0present an interactive\u00a0performance\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>Compagnie\u00a0Galmae<\/strong>,<em>\u00a0It\u2019s not here, it\u2019s over here\u00a0(C\u2019est\u00a0pas\u00a0l\u00e0,\u00a0c\u2019est\u00a0par\u00a0l\u00e0)<\/em>\u00a0as part of a large\u00a0U.S.\u00a0tour by the company.\u00a0The work will\u00a0be\u00a0part of a\u00a0free outdoor show in\u00a0public space\u00a0at\u00a0the heart of downtown Rochester, taking place in summer 2022.\u00a0It\u2019s not\u00a0here,\u00a0it\u2019s over here\u00a0was created under the artistic direction of\u00a0<strong>Juhyung\u00a0Lee\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0inspired by his own feelings during a rally in Seoul.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>The HOME Experiment<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Hand2Mouth, Portland, OR, and Begat Theater, France<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Summer 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hand2Mouth,\u00a0Portland,\u00a0OR,\u00a0will\u00a0present\u00a0the final part of a\u00a0collaborative project with\u00a0<strong>Begat\u00a0Theatre<\/strong>,\u00a0from France,\u00a0titled\u00a0<em>The HOME Experiment<\/em>\u00a0(Phase 2).\u00a0Following the writing development in 2020-2021,\u00a0this site-specific performance will take place in Portland\u00a0during the\u00a0summer\u00a0of 2022.\u00a0<em>The HOME Experiment<\/em>\u00a0crafts a fictional dystopia out of an urban lived-in landscape following a catastrophe. It explores new ways of survival and resilience that performers lead the audience to discover. The production involves groups of young adults hired in collaboration with the homeless service\u00a0provider,\u00a0Outside In, as well as public advocates and service workers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Quake<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Kaneza\u00a0Schaal (director), Guy Regis Jr.\u00a0(author)<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>c\/o\u00a0The Field, Brooklyn, NY\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>2021-2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kaneza\u00a0Schaal<\/strong>\u00a0c\/o The Field\u00a0will\u00a0direct\u00a0<em>Quake<\/em>, written\u00a0by<strong>\u00a0Guy\u00a0R\u00e9gis\u00a0Jr.<\/strong>\u00a0(author),\u00a0a procession performance based on\u00a0<em>When the Whole World Quakes<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0R\u00e9gis\u00a0Jr, planned for fall 2021. The play\u00a0is\u00a0a liturgy for loss and the failings of the state to function in times of crisis. In the aftermath of the devastating 2010 earthquake in Haiti, this work uses a poetic and allegorical script\u00a0to offer a lens through which to consider our current global crisis and its ongoing death toll.\u00a0<em>Quake<\/em>\u00a0will be performed in four contexts: the\u00a0Quatre\u00a0Chemin\u00a0Festival in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; the\u00a0Abrons\u00a0Arts Center in New York City; The Genocide Memorial Amphitheater in Kigali, Rwanda.\u00a0In Haiti, the artists will work with\u202fa collective of musicians in\u00a0Jacmel, and\u202fa group of\u202fformerly incarcerated women performers in Port-au-Prince, thus\u00a0premiering\u00a0a project anchored\u00a0in\u00a0the culture, questions, needs and technology of its local context.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Who Killed My Father<\/em>\u00a0by Edouard Louis and Thomas Ostermeier<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>St. Ann\u2019s Warehouse, Inc., Brooklyn, NY\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>February 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>St. Ann\u2019s Warehouse,\u00a0Brooklyn, NY\u00a0will\u00a0present the U.S. premiere of\u00a0<strong>Edouard\u00a0Louis<\/strong>\u2019s personal memoire\u00a0<em>Who Killed My Father<\/em>\u00a0in 2022.\u00a0This solo performance, directed by\u00a0Schaubu\u0308hne\u00a0Berlin\u2019s <strong>Thomas\u00a0Ostermeier<\/strong>,\u00a0will be presented in French with English subtitles.\u00a0The work confronts the poverty and classism that\u00a0contributed\u00a0to Louis\u2019s father\u2019s premature death. Juxtaposing his working-class upbringing with his now privileged life, Louis presents a searing social critique about the\u00a0brutality\u00a0waged against workers as well as\u00a0a declaration of love to a person who won\u2019t accept it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>BOUCAN<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Cirk\u00a0biZ\u2019arT<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Presidio Theatre, San Francisco, CA\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fall 2022\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><em>BOUCAN<\/em>\u00a0by Cirk BizArt<\/p>\n<p>Presidio Theatre,\u00a0San Francisco, CA,\u00a0will\u00a0present\u00a0<em>BOUCAN<\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0the contemporary circus company<strong>\u00a0Cirk\u00a0biZ&#8217;arT<\/strong>\u00a0in Spring\u00a02022.\u00a0<em>BOUCAN<\/em>\u00a0is a comedic re-imagining of Samuel Becket\u2019s\u00a0<em>Waiting for\u00a0Godot<\/em>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Cirk\u00a0biZ&#8217;arT<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0signature, highly physical, contemporary circus style. Without any dialogue,\u00a0<em>BOUCAN<\/em>\u00a0features four circus artists who attempt to reconstruct the series of events that unfolded the night prior while they clean up after a wild party.
