But why? As\u00a0the quintet\u2019s\u00a0bassist,\u00a0\u00c9douard\u00a0S\u00e9ro-Guillaume,\u00a0explained\u00a0in an interview, &#8220;it&#8217;s\u00a0another link to science fiction, the imaginary, dreams\u00a0&#8230; We liked this side of looking towards the unknown.&#8221;\u00a0Indeed,\u00a0OZMA embraces this\u00a0imaginary\u00a0side with\u00a0their\u00a0unusual repertoires\u00a0existing\u00a0somewhere between exploratory jazz and electric rock, as well as\u00a0through\u00a0shows that combine image and music, including\u00a0photo-concerts and movie-concerts. These\u00a0fascinating\u00a0aspects of the group and its inspiration are what make\u00a0them\u00a0a renowned quintet.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2010,\u00a0OZMA\u00a0was invited to\u00a0create a concert for the film\u00a0Vampyr,\u00a0directed by\u00a0Carl Theodor Dreyer. Since this experience, the group has performed for\u00a0films\u00a0including Buster\u00a0Keaton\u2019s\u00a0The Three Ages,\u00a0Sergei Eisenstein\u2019s\u00a0The Battleship Potemkin,\u00a0and\u00a0Harry O. Hoyt\u2019s\u00a0The Lost World.\u00a0Today,\u00a0the group\u2019s unique\u00a0representation\u00a0on screen\u00a0is one of the distinctive features of the OZMA group!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>OZMA started at the Strasbourg Conservatory in 2001 with Adrien\u00a0Dennefeld\u00a0playing the guitar, \u00c9douard\u00a0S\u00e9ro-Guillaume\u00a0on\u00a0bass, and\u00a0St\u00e9phane\u00a0Scharl\u00e9\u00a0on the\u00a0drums.\u00a0Three years later,\u00a0the\u00a0trio evolved into a quintet with the arrival of Guillaume Nuss on trombone and David\u00a0Florsch\u00a0on saxophone.\u00a0Since\u00a0the release of their\u00a0album\u00a0Welcome Home\u00a0in 2016, the quintet\u00a0has stabilized\u00a0around drummer St\u00e9phane\u00a0Scharl\u00e9;\u00a0bassist Edouard\u00a0S\u00e9ro-Guillaume;\u00a0trombonist Guillaume Nuss,\u00a0back after ten years\u00a0as a solo artist;\u00a0guitarist Tam de Villiers;\u00a0and saxophonist and keyboardist Julien Soro. This year, the group\u00a0will release\u00a0a\u00a0new album,\u00a0Hyperlapse,\u00a0dedicated to the\u00a010\u00a0cities crossed by the group during their\u00a02018\u00a0international tour.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>Hyperlapse: an\u00a0album with cinematographic\u00a0overtures\u00a0<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p>After being recognized as Export Success 2018 by the Export Office (the third-most exported French group\u00a0after\u00a0Youn Sun Nah and Tigran\u00a0Hamasyan),\u00a0OZMA is back with\u00a0Hyperlapse, a travel diary of their tour which takes\u00a0listeners through\u00a0Beijing, Hamburg, Marrakesh, and\u00a0Mumbai.\u00a0Coined after\u00a0a term\u00a0popular in\u00a0the audiovisual field,\u00a0Hyperlapse\u00a0is an album entirely composed by St\u00e9phane\u00a0Scharl\u00e9\u00a0with an electronic echo and a powerful rhythm,\u00a0reminding listeners\u00a0of cinematic\u00a0scores.\u00a0The\u00a0title is also a tribute to\u00a0film director Juliette Ulrich,\u00a0who followed the band on their world tour in 2018 and who filmed\u00a0the album\u2019s\u00a0music videos as well as a web series\u00a0accompanying\u00a0the release of the album.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The sound textures of the 10 songs,\u00a0each dedicated specifically to a city where the band played in 2018,\u00a0are\u00a0paired\u00a0with bewitching visual accompaniment.\u00a0The\u00a0album\u00a0reflects cultural shocks as well as unforgettable encounters,\u00a0making\u00a0its\u00a0sensorial journey a surprising mix of melancholic ambiances with rock-n-roll energy.
