At its core, \u201cThe Grid\u201d is an\u00a0intertwining mechanism for\u00a0European cultural diplomats\u00a0and like-minded thought-leaders of the\u00a0San Francisco\u00a0Bay Area who\u00a0are\u00a0interested in\u00a0the\u00a0communion and\u00a0intersection of both art and technology \u2013 a unique aspect of the Bay Area identity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Once the\u00a0Grid took\u00a0off\u00a0in 2019,\u00a0founders were able to\u00a0establish the European Union National Institutes for Culture\u00a0(EUNIC),\u00a0Silicon Valley. Through the launch of EUNIC Silicon Valley, the Grid has been\u00a0successful\u00a0in bringing local art and tech groups\u00a0together\u00a0in order to share ideas, work together, and maintain a sense of camaraderie among both disciplines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
In its second year of existence,\u00a0the Grid had achieved a myriad of milestones\u00a0displayed\u00a0in this 2020 report, which goes into depth about the details of the Grid and the roles it\u00a0plays\u00a0with both art, tech, and the European community in the Bay Area.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
One of the most interesting topics addressed in the report is of\u00a0cultural\u00a0mindset of the arts from the eyes of the tech industry.\u00a0In one example, Shelley Trott, Director of Arts and Strategy at the Rainin Foundation in Oakland recalls\u00a0repeated\u00a0difficulty in gaining any kind of philanthropic traction from tech firms. A lot of this miscommunication comes from the outdated idea that San Francisco is\u00a0not a\u00a0cultural hotspot, wherein indeed it is one of the most artistically emerging and\u00a0culturally\u00a0profound\u00a0cities in the world.\u00a0The\u00a0report continues and\u00a0later\u00a0addresses that this unionizing through the Grid, of the arts and tech, will help alleviate\u00a0both economic and cultural\u00a0disparities throughout the Bay Area\u00a0in the years to come.\u00a0<\/p>\n
