Their dialogue opened with Ocelot\u2019s enduring passion for animation in the Harry Potter-like dining hall: \u201cI am a lucky guy. I have always known what I wanted to do.\u00a0So\u00a0I did it, and I did it well. The film helped foster a distinctive branch of cinema that followed a trajectory different from its American counterparts, including Walt Disney Studios, whose \u201cgolden age\u201d spanned the 1920s to the 1960s. Captivated by an evening screening of\u00a0<em>The Black Pharaoh, the Savage and the Princess<\/em>\u00a0(2022), organized on the International Day of Francophonie, they\u2014and their parents\u2014\u00a0submitted\u00a0a series of inquiries to Ocelot via their teacher, Ralitsa\u00a0Zaharieva.\u00a0Unexpectedly, the busy director quickly responded with characteristic warmth through two personal videos filmed from his Paris balcony.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon his arrival in Princeton,\u00a0he deepened this bond through a generous school visit.\u00a0During his time with the students, Ocelot\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0his craft using original cut-out materials from\u00a0<em>Princes and Princesses<\/em>, and the community even celebrated his work through a themed tasting menu based on this film. In all these institutions, which also includes the after-school PhilaFLAM Princeton, teachers have long relied on pedagogical dossiers and film analysis to understand Ocelot\u2019s masterpieces. When asked to name his favorite character among the many he created, a question often posed by all audiences he\u00a0encountered, Ocelot replied: \u201cI am a good father. And as a good father, I love all my characters, who are my children.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Ocelot was then welcomed by similarly passionate audiences in New York City, where he opened the 10th edition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.francophoneshortfilms.com\/\">Francophone Short Films in Harlem<\/a> at the Maysles Documentary Center, supported in part by the International Organization of the Francophonie. After screenings of short films from Belgium, France, Switzerland, Togo, and Quebec,\u00a0Ocelot\u2019s\u00a0early work\u00a0<em>The Three Inventors<\/em>\u00a0(1980), alongside\u00a0<em>The Princess of Diamonds\u00a0<\/em>(2000), was followed by a lively conversation\u00a0with\u00a0artist and award-winning\u00a0filmmaker\u00a0Brian Hawkins\u00a0and\u00a0animator\u00a0Alexis\u00a0Zounguere-Sokam. <br>The\u00a0latter\u2019s\u00a0digitally produced\u00a0<em>Independence\u00a0Tchatcha<\/em>\u00a0(2025) offered\u00a0a striking contrast to\u00a0Ocelot\u2019s\u00a0handcrafted \u201cbricolage,\u201d a term he noted resists direct translation due to its unique artistic connotation. The&nbsp;event concluded with a signing session featuring books from Albertine Bookstore.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before hopping on a plane to attend other festivals, including Morocco\u2019s upcoming FICAM, Ocelot\u2019s tour culminated in a welcome brunch hosted by Candy Kugel at her animation studio in downtown Manhattan.
