Villa Albertine is proud to announce the 2023 cohort of artists, researchers, and cultural professionals selected for its groundbreaking residency program<\/strong>. Open to creatives of all nationalities, Villa Albertine residencies are customized to the needs of each resident, allowing them to embed in the American city of their choice and draw creative inspiration from the communities and cultural landscape surrounding them. Working in collaboration with Villa Albertine staff located in 10 cities across the US and local partner institutions, the residents will touch down in 30+ American cities throughout 2023 for one-to-three-month exploratory projects that engage with the great global issues of our time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 2023 residents represent 15 nationalities,\u00a0including\u00a0French, and all creative disciplines, from cinema to music, comics,\u00a0video games, and more.\u00a0Among the 70 residencies<\/strong> selected for 2023, 40 will be based in a single city of their choice, 20 will embark on nomadic projects across several cities, and 10 will take part in an exploratory project in the field of dance, in the tradition of “Ten in America<\/a>“, a film project established in 2022 with the inaugural cohort of residents.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The call for applications for Villa Albertine\u2019s 2023 Residencies was open to creatives of all nationalities<\/strong> from October 2021 to January 2022. The first round of finalists was selected by 40+ local cultural experts in each of Villa Albertine\u2019s 10 cities. The final selection was made by an international jury comprised of cultural leaders from both sides of the Atlantic: Nonny De la Pe\u00f1a<\/strong>, Founder, Emblematic Group and Founding Director, Narrative and Emerging Media Program, Arizona State University; Gina Duncan<\/strong>, President of BAM; Dawn Hudson<\/strong>, CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; Laurent Le Bon<\/strong>, President of the Centre Pompidou; Glenn D. Lowry<\/strong>, David Rockefeller Director of the Museum of Modern Art; and Marie-C\u00e9cile Zinsou<\/strong>, President of the Zinsou Foundation, and Chairwoman of the Board of Villa M\u00e9dicis. The jury was chaired by Ga\u00ebtan Bruel<\/strong>, Director of Villa Albertine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

                      Alongside the call for applications, certain residents will be selected through special initiatives and partnerships, for example, the winners of the Prix Marcel Duchamp (prestigious annual award given to a young artist by the Association pour la Diffusion Internationale de l’Art Fran\u00e7ais) and Prix Pisar (new prize awarded to a young contemporary composer) will also earn a Villa Albertine residency.<\/p>\n

                      Partnerships with the Ford Foundation and Recanati-Kaplan Foundation ensure that creators from the African continent and Middle East are well represented. Other partnerships ensure robust discipline-specific support, such as the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation\u2019s support of Craft & Design residencies.<\/p>\n

                      Applications for 2024 Residencies will open in November 2022.<\/p>\n
