{"id":56975,"date":"2022-03-28T23:58:13","date_gmt":"2022-03-28T23:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/news\/france-shone-sxsw-2022\/"},"modified":"2023-08-23T07:32:05","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T07:32:05","slug":"france-shone-sxsw-2022","status":"publish","type":"app_news","link":"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/va\/news\/france-shone-sxsw-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"France Shone at SXSW 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/events\/sxsws-person-lineup-features-several-french-productions-co-productions\"><strong lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\">South by Southwest<\/strong><\/a> is a major festival dedicated to digital creation and is a must-attend event for all players in the digital industry, from start-ups to investors, from large corporations to entrepreneurs.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>France stood out with two awards for virtual reality:\u00a0<em><strong lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.onthemorningyouwake.com\/\">On the Morning You Wake<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.onthemorningyouwake.com\/\"> <strong>(To the End of the World)<\/strong><\/a><\/em>\u00a0by Dr. Jamaica Heolomeleikalani Osorio, Mike Brett, Steve Jamison, <strong lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\">Pierre Zandrowicz, <\/strong>and<strong lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\"> Arnaud Colinart <\/strong>won the <strong lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\">Jury Award for XR Experiences,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.xrmust.com\/xrdatabase\/all-experiences\/history-of-a-painting-the-light-in-the-shadow\/\">(<em>Hi)story of a Painting: The Light in the Shadow<\/em><\/a><\/strong>\u00a0by <strong lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\">Quentin Darras and Ga\u00eblle Mourre<\/strong> received the <strong lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\">special Jury Recognition for Immersive Storytelling.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During the festival, several VR projects from French productions were showcased:\u00a0<em>Goliath: Playing With Reality<\/em>\u00a0(2021), <em>Minimum Mass<\/em> (2020), <em>Liminal Lands<\/em> (2021), and\u00a0Patch XR (2022).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/residents\/celine-tricart\"><strong>C\u00e9line Tricart,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0the award-winning filmmaker behind short VR films <em>Sun Ladies<\/em> and <em>The Key\u00a0<\/em>and Villa Albertine resident, presented a keynote speech at the festival, issuing a challenge to established storytellers as well as the new breed of blockchain-based NFT peddlers: tell better stories and make them more collaborative.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\">Also during the festival, Villa Albertine presented a panel titled \u201c<em lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\"><strong>It\u2019s\u00a0time for change! How VR\u00a0creators impact\u00a0our\u00a0society&#8221; <\/strong><\/em>at <a href=\"https:\/\/dadalab.io\/\">DadaLab<\/a>\u00a0in Austin, in the presence of the French Ambassador to the United States. We invited Pierre Zandowicz, May Abdalla, and Katayoun\u00a0Dibamehr\u00a0to share about the urgency to initiate change through tech and narration. For the panel, Zurich-based French artist\u00a0<strong lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\">Melodie Mousset<\/strong>\u00a0launched her new tool for music in the metaverse, Patch XR.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\">This year marked the first time a French delegation composed of ten start-ups (Evergig, Meludia, Openclassroom, Metuilab, Whyd, Qobus, Azendoo, Bobler, Sounderbox, and Djehouti) was present at SXSW.
