On the occasion of this unique anniversary, 2022 will be dedicated to Moli\u00e8re’s theater: Moli\u00e8re 2022. This celebration was conceived by an international network of researchers to study the new uses and interpretations of Moli\u00e8re in our globalized world. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Moli\u00e8re, the man who has “a thousand faces and a thousand theaters,” according to Eric Ruf, Director of the Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise\u2014known as La Maison de Moli\u00e8re, or the House of Moli\u00e8re\u2014will be celebrated throughout 2022 during various cultural events in France and the United States. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Entirely\u00a0dedicated\u00a0to Moli\u00e8re, the\u00a0Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise’s\u00a0program<\/a>\u00a0will\u00a0offer\u00a0twelve original productions directed by Ivo van Hove, Julie\u00a0Deliquet, Lilo Baur, and Louise\u00a0Vignaud\u00a0as well as the revival of a selection of plays by Moli\u00e8re from\u00a0mid-January\u00a0to\u00a0mid-July.\u00a0<\/p>\n In particular,\u00a0the first version of\u00a0Tartuffe<\/em>\u00a0(Le Tartuffe ou l’hypocrite<\/a>)<\/em>, directed by Ivo van Hove, will be performed at the\u00a0Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise\u00a0from January 15 to April 24, which hasn’t been seen at the legendary theatre since it was banned by Louis XIV after its first performance in 1664.\u00a0<\/p>\n The celebration of the 400th anniversary of the Patron<\/em>, as he’s called by the\u00a0Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise, doesn’t stop there\u2014it continues on the internet with the posting of new theatrical productions and\u00a0roundtables<\/a>!\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n Numerous\u00a0meetings, readings, and conferences<\/a>\u00a0will be organized within the\u00a0Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise, several of which\u00a0will be broadcast both\u00a0in theaters<\/a>\u00a0(in\u00a0association with Path\u00e9 Live) and on television (in partnership with France Television).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The\u00a0Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise has\u00a0also\u00a0partnered\u00a0with\u00a0several\u00a0radio stations to create content related to Moli\u00e8re, including RFI,\u00a0France Inter<\/a>, and\u00a0France Musique<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Several venues will present\u00a0exhibitions<\/a>\u00a0related to Moli\u00e8re and his work, and\u00a0a virtual exhibition<\/a>\u00a0was organized by the Soci\u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0d\u2019histoire\u00a0du\u00a0th\u00e9\u00e2tre that shows all the traces left by Moli\u00e8re in their archives.\u00a0<\/p>\n In partnership with numerous international universities,\u00a0several symposia, meetings, and\u00a0conferences<\/a>\u00a0will be held in France and abroad.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The party\u00a0dedicated\u00a0to Moli\u00e8re continues across the Atlantic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Taking place in Kansas City, Missouri, from January 12 to June 12,\u00a0the KC Moli\u00e8re\u00a0400\u00a0in 2022\u00a0festival<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0showcases the multicultural potential and contemporary relevance of Moli\u00e8re.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Performances of\u00a0Moli\u00e8re’s\u00a0plays\u00a0such\u00a0as\u00a0The\u00a0Pests<\/a>;\u00a0Tartuffe<\/a>;\u00a0The\u00a0Imaginary\u00a0Invalid<\/a><\/em>; and a contemporary adaptation of\u00a0Sganarelle<\/em>\u2014entitled\u00a0Secrets & Lies<\/a><\/em>\u2014will\u00a0play throughout\u00a0the\u00a0year\u00a0in Kansas City.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The\u00a0celebration\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0in full swing on May 1\u00a0with\u00a0the free 400th\u00a0anniversary\u00a0party<\/a> at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Moli\u00e8re Turns 400, 17th Century Paris Meets 21st Century New York <\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n From March 10 to 12 at 7:30pm, a selection of excerpts from Moli\u00e8re’s plays directed by Lucie Tiberghien will be performed at FIAF Florence Gould Hall. These 17th century satires have lost none of their relevance today.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n Modernizing Moli\u00e8re:\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>A Talk with Adam Gopnik and Erica Schmidt\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n On Thursday, March 23, at 7pm, in partnership with the Library of America, acclaimed author Adam Gopnick and broadway director Erica Schmidt will host a talk in the FIAF Skyroom that will shed new light on Moli\u00e8re’s biting wit about the society of his time. \u00a0<\/p>\n Moli\u00e8re’s Uncensored Tartuffe by Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n On March 30 at 7pm, FIAF will screen a never-before-seen broadcast in French with English subtitles of Tartuffe ou l’hypocrite<\/em> directed by Ivo van Hove for the Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise.
