Julia Ducournau\u2019s Titane <\/em>(2021) <\/strong>has been selected to represent France at the 94th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film race.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Starring Agathe Rousselle and Vincent Lindon, Titane <\/em>combines gender questioning and cinematographic genre in a narratively-daring and visually-stunning production.<\/p>\n

The film brings together the parallel stories of Alexia, a motor show showgirl with a titanium plate in her head, and Vincent, a pumped-up steroid-using firecaptian whose son went missing many years earlier. As a young and pregnant fugitive, Alexia pretends to be the firefighter’s missing son, finding refuge in his fire station. Titane<\/em> offers a disturbing\u2014yet poetic\u2014exploration of these two marginalized figures\u2019 relations.<\/p>\n

After a tight race against Audrey Diwan\u2019s Venice International Film Festival Golden Lion winner Happening<\/em> (2021) and C\u00e9dric Jimenez\u2019s Bac Nord <\/em>(2020), Ducournau\u2019s film was selected by France\u2019s selection committee to represent French contemporary cinema at the 94th Academy Awards.<\/p>\n

Titane<\/em> was released in US movie theaters on Oct. 1, and had the biggest worldwide opening for a French-language film in more than 15 years.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the film was awarded with the <\/strong>Cannes Film Festival\u2019s Palme d\u2019Or. At the beginning of November, it will also be part of the 25th COLCOA Film Festival<\/u><\/a> line-up.<\/p>\n
