The natural shape of a seashell appears so well fitted to its use as a Korean Sangtu<\/em> topknot hairpin that it seems like a manufactured object. Conversely, the Parrot Devotee brooch evokes the presence of a bird perched on its master’s shoulder without resembling one\u2014and the lavish plumage is made of turkey, pigeon, duck and guinea fowl feathers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marion Delarue’s pieces play with the confusion between authenticity and imitation, referencing simulacra and lures. Taking advantage of nature’s incredible variety of shapes and drawing from traditional Asian craftsmanship, she blurs the line between nature and artifice, between objects and living beings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marion will look back at her residency at the Mus\u00e9e des arts d\u00e9coratifs in Paris, which built on her previous residencies, notably at Villa Kujoyama\u2014the Japanese counterpart to Villa Albertine. Over the course of her three months at the MAD, she worked with the curators, conservators and scientists, immersed in one of the world\u2019s finest decorative art collections. She will take us on a journey through her sources of inspiration and her initial fascination for traditional hair and head ornaments from Japan and China, tracing the evolution of her ideas all the way to the final pieces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Marion Delarue<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A former resident of Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto and the Mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs in Paris, which is currently presenting a solo exhibition of her work, on view through January 10, 2027, Marion Delarue was initially trained as a glass and ceramic artist in France, Korea, and Estonia. Her work is part of the collections of the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, Mus\u00e9e des Arts d\u00e9coratifs (Paris), and the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), among others. She was awarded several international prizes, including the Winner Award at the Cheongju Craft Biennale (South Korea), the Talente Award (Germany), and First Prize at the European Triennial of Contemporary Jewellery (Belgium). She was also a finalist for the AJF Young Artist Award in the United States. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
