{"id":9000075,"date":"2026-09-30T17:40:33","date_gmt":"2026-09-30T17:40:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/va\/?post_type=app_event&#038;p=9000075"},"modified":"2026-09-30T17:40:35","modified_gmt":"2026-09-30T17:40:35","slug":"mary-cassat-after-impressionism","status":"publish","type":"app_event","link":"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/va\/events\/mary-cassat-after-impressionism\/","title":{"rendered":"Mary Cassat: After Impressionism"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now on view through <strong>January 3, 2027<\/strong>, the <strong>Art Institute of Chicago<\/strong> presents its first major exhibition dedicated to <strong>Mary Cassatt<\/strong> in more than 25 years, marking the centennial of the artist\u2019s death in 1926.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Mary Cassatt: After Impressionism<\/em> brings together more than <strong>75 paintings, works on paper, and archival materials<\/strong>, focusing on the years following Cassatt\u2019s final exhibition with the Impressionists in 1886. Although she remained based in Paris and closely connected to French artistic circles, including her friendship with Edgar Degas, Cassatt increasingly developed an independent artistic vision centered on the everyday lives of women and caregivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A highlight is the reconstruction of <em>Modern Woman<\/em>, Cassatt\u2019s ambitious\u2014and now-lost\u2014mural created for the <strong>1893 World\u2019s Columbian Exposition in Chicago<\/strong>. Commissioned by Bertha Honor\u00e9 Palmer for the Woman\u2019s Building, the monumental work celebrated women\u2019s education, creativity, and cultural life through scenes of women and girls in an orchard, making music, dancing, and pursuing their dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exhibition offers a renewed look at Cassatt\u2019s work as both <strong>painter and printmaker<\/strong>, while highlighting her sustained and innovative exploration of women\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>This exhibition is curated by Annelise K.
