Across eight documentaries and her acclaimed debut fiction, Saint Omer (2022), she combines formal rigor with a sustained ethical engagement with questions of race, class, geography, gender, and belonging.

In collaboration with Diop’s appointment as the 2026–27 Avenali Chair in the Humanities at UC Berkeley’s Townsend Center for the Humanities and Pajus Distinguished Visitor in French Studies, BAMPFA presents a retrospective of her films.
