{"id":895237,"date":"2024-11-13T21:00:41","date_gmt":"2024-11-13T21:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/va\/?post_type=app_event&#038;p=895237"},"modified":"2024-11-13T21:28:33","modified_gmt":"2024-11-13T21:28:33","slug":"arthur-francietta-michael-roch","status":"publish","type":"app_event","link":"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/va\/events\/arthur-francietta-michael-roch\/","title":{"rendered":"Arthur Francietta &amp; Michael Roch"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.af-miami.org\/cultural-activities\/upcoming-events\/michael-roch-and-arthur-francietta\/\">Alliance Fran\u00e7aise Miami Metro<\/a> is hosting a conversation with acclaimed French author on tour, Michael Roch, and with Arthur Francietta, recipient of this year\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pamm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/EXT-PAMM-2024-CCI-Fellowship-Announcement-Press-Release.pdf\">Caribbean Cultural Institute<\/a> (CCI)\u00a0Artist Fellowship at\u00a0the\u00a0P\u00e9rez Art Museum Miami.\u00a0Together, they\u2019ll explore fresh perspectives and experimental\u00a0techniques in re-imagining Caribbean identities and narratives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the confluence of speculative literature and the graphic arts, Arthur Francietta and Michael Roch explore Caribbean imaginaries from a new angle. Both aspire to create new narrative and poetic forms that capture the complexity of Caribbean societies. Through literature, visual arts, and multimedia, Roch and Francietta push the boundaries of cultural representation, offering new lenses on Caribbean heritage, history, and futurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Michael Roch<\/strong>\u00a0is a writer and screenwriter of Caribbean science fiction, born in Lyon in 1987,  highly acclaimed for his novel\u00a0<em>T\u00e8 Mawon<\/em>\u00a0(2022, La Volte). He is currently publishing a collection of short stories in the same universe,<em>\u00a0Lanvil emm\u00eal\u00e9e<\/em>\u00a0(2024, La Volte). Since 2015, he has led several writing workshops on the theme of Afrofuturism &#8211; a literary movement developing Afrocentric counter-dystopias &#8211; in prison and university settings.\u00a0Today, he hosts\u00a0<em>Latili\u00e9<\/em>, a creative writing workshop dedicated to literatures of the imagination on Twitch. He teaches storytelling at art schools. He is also a member of the Fabrique d\u00e9coloniale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Arthur Francietta<\/strong>\u00a0is a Martinique-born artist, designer, and typographer who seamlessly blends graphic design, visual art, and cultural heritage in his work. His innovative approach to asemic writing \u2013 a form of writing without literal meaning \u2013 creates symbolic visual languages rooted in Caribbean history and traditions, drawing on influences like Anaforuana and V\u00e9v\u00e9. Francietta\u2019s art explores themes of ancestral memory, the sacred connection between humans and nature, and the deep cultural legacy of the Caribbean. As founder of Studio de Cr\u00e9ation Bureau Blind\u00e9, he has made a significant impact on the visual and graphic design landscape of Martinique and the broader Caribbean, pushing the boundaries of contemporary art in the region.
