Set against a stage piled high with discarded plastic bottles, Beugr\u00e9\u2014joined by two performers from C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire\u2014explores the tension between the promise of personal freedom and the threat of environmental decay. This immersive experience blurs the lines between performer and audience, navigating spaces of restriction and possibility. Twelve years after the performance on the Walker stage, Beugr\u00e9 reimagines her iconic solo, inviting new voices to join her in this unrestrained journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the artist<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nadia Beugr\u00e9<\/a><\/strong> was born in Ivory Coast and began her career in 1995 with the Dante Theatre. She co-founded B\u00e9atrice Komb\u00e9\u2019s groundbreaking all-female ensemble, Tch\u00e9Tch\u00e9, touring internationally with them. After Komb\u00e9\u2019s death, Beugr\u00e9 trained at Germaine Acogny\u2019s \u00c9cole des Sables in Senegal and completed the ex.e.r.ce program at the Centre Chor\u00e9graphique National de Montpellier. Influenced by mentor Alain Buffard, her work explores themes of identity, marginalization, and the body’s complexities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beugr\u00e9\u2019s notable pieces include Quartiers libres<\/em> (2012), Legacy<\/em> (2015), Tapis Rouge<\/em> (2017), Roukasskass Club<\/em> (2019), L\u2019Homme rare<\/em> (2020), and two 2023 works focusing on Abidjan. Her collaborative projects span work with choreographers like Seydou Boro and Boris Charmatz, and she has directed pieces like Atem<\/em> (2020) and Don Giovanni<\/em> (2022). In 2020, Beugr\u00e9 co-founded her own dance company, Libr\u2019Arts, in Montpellier, fostering ties between France and Ivory Coast.
