Since 1960, Boston has been the sister city of Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin, France). The pairing was initiated by Charles Munch, native of Strasbourg and conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1949 to 1962. Since the first musical and educational exchanges, the twinning has continued to diversify between the two cities, united by shared values. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most recent examples of partnerships between Boston and Strasbourg include the pooling of know-how between firefighters, an exchange exploring quilting and its history, and exhibitions highlighting the link between art and science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, eight Boston-based and seven Strasbourg-based artists took part in the \u201c\u00c9l\u00e9ment Eau\u201d project, which celebrates and explores all the forms that this precious resource can take, through painting, engraving, collage, photography and embroidery. While some highlight the plastic and aesthetic qualities of water – its malleability, fluidity and transparency when liquid, its solidity when ice, its ability to reflect the surrounding landscape when calm, the impressive character of its eddies and waves when agitated, are all sources of inspiration for artists – others question its depletion, rising waters, ocean pollution or overfishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This exhibition is free and open to all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
