Villa Albertine invites you to join the fouth Food for Thought,<\/a> a California series, explores the intersection of food and politics through dialogue and cuisine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A program of Villa Albertine San Francisco, in partnership with Abrams and Bombera, featuring author and filmmaker V\u00e9rane Fr\u00e9diani, food reporter and translator Alexis Steinman, historians David do Pa\u00e7o and Carlos Manuel Solomon, with Villa Albertine Culinary Advisor from Tanya Holland <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Food for Thought edition will focus on the recent release of the recipe book “Taste the World in Marseille”, explored through a panel discussion with the authors and historians, and a unique collaborative food tasting designed by Chefs Dominica Rice and Georgiana Viou. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests will then be invited to discover dishes reflecting the identities of Oakland and Marseille forged by the communities discussed during the panel in Bombera’s garden and dining space. These activities will allow guests to explore the richness of multiculturalism in each city, with cuisine playing a leading role. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the event, a book signing and sales for “Taste the World in Marseille” will available. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tanya Holland will also have her books available for purchase by guests. <\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chef Giorgiana Viou<\/strong> is a qualified culinary ambassador for the city of Marseille, blends the cuisines of Southern France and her home country of Benin. Her career as an entrepreneur, chef, and fusion specialist makes her an ideal partner for collaborating on, co-producing, and hosting multi-hand dinners that honor women and people of multicultural identities working in gastronomy. As the first woman of color in France to receive a Michelin star, she represents the new reality of France and French cuisine in the 21st century. Georgiana is featured in the book “Taste the World in Marseille.” <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dominica Rice Cisneros <\/strong>is a Chef and Entrepreneur of the former Oakland restaurant Cosecha, and restaurateur behind Bombera. She cooks Chicano style cuisine which mixes Mexican and California styles of cuisine. In 2023 Michelin added Bombera to its California Guide and has a history of advocating for women in the culinary industry.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

V\u00e9rane Fr\u00e9diani<\/strong>, Marseille born writer of Taste the World in Marseille. <\/em>A producer, director, editor, journalist, author, and photographer. Recently she focused her career on creating documentaries and writing books on gastronomy. In 2017 she filmed the documentary \u201cThe Goddesses of Food\u201d with chefs Alice Waters, Dominique Crenn and Amanda Cohen among many other international women chefs. The film is available on Apple TV.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tanya Holland <\/strong>is a celebrity chef, restaurateur, podcast host, writer, cookbook author, soul food expert. She was the owner of Brown Sugar Kitchen in Oakland and is on the James Beard Foundation Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alexis Steinman<\/strong>, an American food, and travel writer based in Marseille, has had her work published in Roads & Kingdoms, Saveur, Atlas Obscura, Lonely Planet, and The Globe and Mail. Proud to have translated V\u00e9rane Fr\u00e9diani\u2019s “Taste the World in Marseille,” the first English book about Marseille cuisine, she leads food tours as the Marseille Bureau Chief of Culinary Backstreets. <\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carlos Manuel Solomon<\/strong> is a Chicano author, teacher, activist, historian, and Professor of Ethnic Studies at Cal State East Bay. His research interests include borderlands ancestry, collective and cultural memory, Chicano\/a folklore, migration, and oral history. He has been collecting oral histories over the past 15 years for the Bay Area Latin American Migrant Archive.

David Do Pa\u00e7o<\/strong> is the French Attach\u00e9 for Academic Cooperation in San Francisco an urban historian. He earned his Ph.D. from the Sorbonne and has published his book L\u2019Orient \u00e0 Vienne au dix-huiti\u00e8me si\u00e8cle<\/a><\/em> with Oxford Press. David explores the social life of people deprived of civic rights and examines how they combined multiple circles of social belonging to compensate for the lack of administrative protection. He recently was the Columbia University chair in East-Central European Studies.. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
