The title of Bekolo\u2019s vivid experimental feature reflects Wanita\u2019s galvanizing revelation as well as his larger meta-commentary on the media\u2019s production of meaning and images of Africa, specifically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>May 12, 2024 | 7:00pm | Double Feature <\/strong><br><em><a href=\"https:\/\/cinema.ucla.edu\/events\/2024\/05\/12\/quartier-mozart-aristotles-plot\">Quartier Mozart<\/a><\/em><br>Domestic discord is inevitable when a police chief brings home a second wife but it&#8217;s nothing compared to the delirious trouble that results when his daughter falls in love with a newcomer in town who\u2019s actually a woman living as a man with help from a witch. Around this already intriguing central storyline, Jean-Pierre Bekolo crafts a playful, loving portrait of the quirky and complicated residents of a neighborhood in Cameroon\u2019s capital Yaound\u00e9 in his internationally acclaimed debut feature.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/cinema.ucla.edu\/events\/2024\/05\/12\/quartier-mozart-aristotles-plot\">Aristotle\u2019s Plot<\/a><\/em><br>The first African film to screen at Sundance, Bekolo\u2019s second feature was commissioned by the British Film Institute as part of a project to mark cinema\u2019s centennial.
