{"id":60427,"date":"2023-06-22T00:35:03","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T00:35:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/events\/raw-talent-spotlight-on-julia-ducournau\/"},"modified":"2023-08-23T07:46:50","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T07:46:50","slug":"raw-talent-spotlight-on-julia-ducournau","status":"publish","type":"app_event","link":"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/va\/events\/raw-talent-spotlight-on-julia-ducournau\/","title":{"rendered":"Raw Talent: Spotlight on Julia Ducournau"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Few filmmakers have emerged on the international scene with such immediate impact as <a href=\"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/residents\/julia-ducournau\">J<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/villa-albertine.org\/residents\/julia-ducournau\">ulia Ducournau<\/a>, whose first feature, 2016\u2019s cannibal coming-of-age tale\u00a0<em>Raw<\/em>, was a worldwide sensation, and whose second, 2021\u2019s genre-bending fever dream\u00a0<em>Titane<\/em>, won her the Palme d\u2019Or at the Cannes Film Festival &#8211; that she joined this year as jury member-.\u00a0As\u00a0Villa Albertine&#8217;s resident 2023, she traveled to NYC to work\u00a0on\u00a0her next film.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She will present a retrospective of her two feature-films\u00a0<em>Raw<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Titane <\/em>as well as\u00a0her first short <em>Junior<\/em> at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metrograph.com\/category\/rawtalent\/\">Metrograph\u00a0<\/a>on June 24\u00a0and 25. <strong><em>Julia Ducournau will be in attendance for a very exclusive Q&amp;A.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Junior (2011)<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<br \/>\nJustine, who goes by Junior, is a 13-year-old tomboy with pimples and a unique sense of humor. After unexpectedly contracting a stomach virus, her body becomes home to a bizarre metamorphosis.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Raw (2016)<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<br \/>\nEveryone in Justine&#8217;s family is a vet. And a vegetarian. At 16, she\u2019s a brilliant and promising student. When she starts at veterinary school, she enters a decadent, merciless and dangerously seductive world. During the first week of hazing rituals, desperate to fit in whatever the cost, she strays from her family principles when she eats raw meat for the first time.
