To prepare for her visit, the graduate students in French have organized two reading groups. The first one will be in English and take place on Thursday, March 30th and the second one in French will be held on Tuesday, April 4th. Both will be in person in Callaway C202. These workshops are open to undergraduate and graduate students in all disciplines.<\/p>\n

Woodruff Library, the Psychoanalytic Studies Program, the Department of Comparative Literature, the African American Studies Program, the Department of English and the Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and with the generous support of the D\u00e9l\u00e9gation du Qu\u00e9bec, of the Villa Albertine and the Consulate General of France in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Agnant has lived in Qu\u00e9bec since 1970. Agnant\u2019s work is inspired by her personal experiences as a Black woman immigrating to Canada as well as the lives of those around her who have similar stories. Her novels have been broadly translated and include her most well-known novel, Le Livre d\u2019Emma [The Book of Emma, 2001] which tells the story of enslaved women in the Caribbean facing their traumatizing past. An anthology of her poems, Femmes des terres br\u00fbl\u00e9es (2016) which evokes the living conditions of women and their fight against injustice, won the Prix Alain-Grandbois from the Acad\u00e9mie des lettres du Qu\u00e9bec.
