For the early Christians, for the twenty-first-century world, how have past and future been woven into the present? In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.semcoop.com\/chronos-west-confronts-time\"><strong><em>Chronos<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a leading French historian ranges from Western antiquity to the Anthropocene, pinpointing the crucial turning points in our relationship to time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the author:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Fran\u00e7ois Hartog<\/strong>\u00a0is a professor emeritus at the \u00c9cole des hautes \u00e9tudes en sciences sociales in Paris. His books in English include\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.semcoop.com\/regimes-historicity-0\"><strong><em>Regimes of Historicity: Presentism and Experiences of Time<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(Columbia, 2015) and\u00a0<strong><em>The Mirror of Herodotus: The Representation of the Other in the Writing of History<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1988).<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the interlocutors:<\/strong>\u00a0<br \/><strong>Bill Brown<\/strong>\u00a0is the Karla Scherer Distinguished Service Professor in American Culture at University of Chicago, appointed in the Department of English and the Department of Visual Arts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephan Palmi\u00e9<\/strong>\u00a0is the Norman &amp; Edna Freehling Professor of Anthropology and of Social Sciences in the College, and the Director of Undergraduate Studies at University of Chicago. Stephan Palmi\u00e9 conducts ethnographic and historical research on Afro-Caribbean cultures, with an emphasis on Afro-Cuban religious formations and their relations to the history and cultures of a wider Atlantic world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the moderator:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Dipesh Chakrabarty<\/strong>\u00a0is the Lawrence A. Kimpton Distinguished Service Professor of History and South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago.
