Included among these is Alain Cavalier\u2019s rarely screened\u00a0<em>L\u2019insoumis<\/em>, starring Alain Delon, as well as other films relating to the Algerian War, including James Blue\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Olive Trees of Justice<\/em>\u00a0(1961) and Jacques Panijel\u2019s banned film\u00a0<em>October in Paris<\/em>\u00a0(1962). The specter of French colonialism is manifested as well in Jacques Melo Kane, Mamadou Sarr, and Paulin Soumanou Viera\u2019s groundbreaking\u00a0<em>Afrique sur Seine<\/em>\u00a0(1955) and in the ethnographic films of Jean Rouch, including\u00a0<em>Moi, un Noir<\/em>\u00a0(1958). And while the French New Wave was doubtless dominated by men\u2014this exhibition does not neglect names like Alexandre Astruc, Jacques Doniol-Valcroze, Georges Franju, Jacques Rozier, and Edouard Molinaro\u2014there were, nonetheless, a select few women, including Paula Delsol, who made deeply personal work in the shadow of the pioneering and towering figure of Agn\u00e8s Varda.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Organized by Jean-Michel Frodon, independent curator, and Joshua Siegel, Curator, with Olivia Priedite, Senior Programming Assistant, Department of Film.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u><strong>The Film Series will be screened in parallel at <a href=\"https:\/\/harvardfilmarchive.org\/programs\/forgotten-films-of-the-french-new-wave\">Harvard Film Archive<\/a> from May 6 to June 19.<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong>Many of the films will be introduced in-person by Jean-Michel Frodon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the support of Villa Albertine.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Access the full program and read an introductory essay by series co-organizer Jean-Michel Frodon <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moma.org\/calendar\/film\/5459\">here<\/a>.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Film at MoMA is made possible by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moma.org\/support\/chanel\">CHANEL<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Additional support is provided by the Annual Film Fund.
