While most of the films are recent releases, the catalogue also includes titles from the past decade and earlier.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">The Dance Films Catalogue aims to promote the work of choreographers, dancers and directors. It is a resource for contemporary and performing arts centers, dance film festivals, and universities to discover new works, new artists, and present them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">During the month of March, two festivals will highlight films from the catalogue, in which the ties between the dance and cinema are explored through the motion bodies and energies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Segal Center Film Festival on Theatre &amp; Performance<\/h2>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><strong>March 1-15 | Segal Center, New York <\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Several dance films from the catalogue and <a href=\"https:\/\/segalfilmfestival.org\/dance-films-catalogue-a-project-of-villa-albertine-in-partnership-with-the-french-embassy-in-the-united-states-by-villa-albertine\/\">the catalogue itself<\/a> will be celebrated during t<a href=\"https:\/\/segalfilmfestival.org\/\">he Segal Center Film Festival on Theater and performance (FTP)<\/a>. The festival features global work from more than 80 artists hailing from 20+ countries. Experimental, emerging, and established theatre artists and filmmakers will be brought together to present work created for the screen to audiences and industry professionals from around the world. The festival is free and open to all. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Three dance films from the catalogue will be displayed during the FTP: \u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3 lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/segalfilmfestival.org\/la-visite-wanjiru-kamuyu-by-wanjiru-kamuyu-tommy-pascal\/\">\u00a0La Visite by Wanjiru Kamuyu and Tommy Pascal, 2020<\/a>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Confronted by the 2020 health crisis that rendered performances impossible, The National Historical Museum\u00a0 of\u00a0 Immigration, in\u00a0 partnership\u00a0 with Th\u00e9\u00e2tre\u00a0 de\u00a0 la\u00a0 Ville in\u00a0 Paris, commissioned\u00a0 dance\u00a0 film\u00a0 <em>La\u00a0 visite<\/em>.\u00a0 The\u00a0 film\u00a0 generates\u00a0 a\u00a0 dialogue\u00a0 between\u00a0 elements of\u00a0 performer\u00a0 Wanjiru\u00a0 Kamuyu\u2019s\u00a0 solo\u00a0 <em>An\u00a0 Immigrant\u2019s\u00a0 Story<\/em>\u00a0 and\u00a0 the\u00a0 Palais\u00a0 de\u00a0 la\u00a0 Porte Dor\u00e9e\u00a0 in Paris.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3 lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/segalfilmfestival.org\/letters-from-the-continent-by-studios-kabako\/\">Letters from the Continent by Faustin Linyekula, 2020<\/a>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><em>Lettres du continent<\/em>\u00a0(<em>Letters from the Continent<\/em>, 2020), a feature-length\u00a0 film directed by\u00a0Faustin Linyekula and Virginie Dupray, features portraits of 21 dancers and collectives from across Africa, discussing the\u00a0 transformations to daily life and reflecting on new ways of creating.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Among the 18 countries represented are Senegal (hip-hop dancer Belleka),\u00a0 Tanzania (contemporary dancer Samwel Japhet), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (dancer Jeannot Kumbonyeki), Comoros (dancer Salim Mz\u00e9\u00a0 Hamadi Moisi), and Togo (dancer Germaine Sikota). The dancers, directors, and\u00a0 performers share their troubles and hopes and how they navigate daily life and work in this context of crisis, reaffirming their need to continue creating and showing their vision of the world and the African continent.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3 lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/segalfilmfestival.org\/so-ava-smail-kanoute-by-smail-kanoute-compagnie-vivons\/\">So Ava by Sma\u00efl Kanout\u00e9, 2021<\/a>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">In <em>So Ava<\/em>, Sma\u00efl Kanout\u00e9 returns to his African roots by retracing the path of the slaves who, through their forced exile, spread their beliefs and voodoo rituals across the world. Filmed in Benin, this short film enhances the ties that link us with our ancestors. Intrigued by the invisible and deeply convinced that when we dance, we never dance alone, Sma\u00efl Kanout\u00e9 immersed himself for a week in this enigmatic and mysterious community to learn its dances and voodoo philosophy, moving to purge the often-painful stories of the African diaspora.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Dance Camera West Film Festival<\/h2>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><strong>March 31-April 2 | Theatre Raymond Kabbaz\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">This three-day festival will highlight artists\u2019 resilience and creativity challenged by the global lockdown,\u00a0expressed through the media of dance and film.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/trkdcwintldance.eventive.org\/welcome\">The DCW festival<\/a> will feature an exclusive set of international dance films that connects cultures, stage dancers old and young and tells stories. \u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/trkdcwintldance.eventive.org\/films\/61b137ed784c2900cf54b598\"><em>Nioun Rec<\/em> by Amala Dianor and Gr\u00e9goire Korganow, 2021<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">The third part of the festival will be dedicated to European dance films. On April 2 at 8pm,<em> Nioun Rec<\/em> by Amala Dianor and Gr\u00e9goire Korganow \u2014a 2021 dance film, promoted by the Dance Films Catalogue curated by Villa Albertine, will be showcased. For this collaboration with artist Gr\u00e9goire Korganow, Amala Dianor adapted the choreography from <em>Man Rec <\/em>(\u201conly me\u201d in Wolof) and transformed it into <em>Nioun Rec<\/em> (\u201conly us\u201d), the first work in a series of dance films entitled Cin\u00e9-Danse. In the film, accompanied by the dancer Nangaline Gomis, the choreographer presents a unique, site-specific creation within the walls of an iconic piece of modern architecture.
