This lecture is organized in partnership with the Architectural League of New York\u2019s \u201cCurrent Work\u201d Series and with Cooper Union,\u00a0and\u00a0with the support\u00a0of Villa Albertine, in partnership with the French Embassy in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Architects\u00a0<strong>Anne Lacaton<\/strong>, <strong>Jean Philippe Vassal<\/strong> and <strong>Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Druot<\/strong> have collaborated on a number of design and research projects, redefining the possibilities of social housing, sustainability and\u00a0community agency.\u00a0 Their motto, \u201cnever demolish, never remove or replace, always add, transform, and reuse\u201d, has guided them to creating:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lacatonvassal.com\/index.php?idp=80#\">Cit\u00e9 du Grand Parc<\/a>, the 2017 transformation of three fully occupied modernist social housing buildings in Bordeaux, adding gardens and balconies to each unit.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lacatonvassal.com\/?idp=56#\">Tour Bois le Pr\u00eatre<\/a>, the 2010 renovation and extension of a 1960s social housing tower, designed in collaboration with current residents.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.faireparis.com\/en\/projets\/faire-2017\/updating-paris-1298.html\">PLUS Paris<\/a>, a 2004 study of 1,648 sites in Paris with the potential to add 135,000 new housing units without demolition or resident relocation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Architects:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anne Lacaton<\/strong>\u00a0graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superi\u00e9ure d\u2019Architecture de Bordeaux in 1980 and received a diploma in urban planning from the University of Bordeaux in 1984. She is a professor of architecture and design at ETH Zurich and has taught at EPFL Lausanne, Technische Hochschule N\u00fcrnberg Georg Simon Ohm, Harvard Graduate School of Design, Delft University of Technology, Polytechnic University of Madrid, and University at Buffalo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jean Philippe Vassal<\/strong>\u00a0graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superi\u00e9ure d\u2019Architecture de Bordeaux in 1980 and worked as an urban planner in Niger from 1980 to 1985. He is an associate professor at Universit\u00e4t der K\u00fcnste Berlin and has taught at Technische Universit\u00e4t Berlin, Hochschule D\u00fcsseldorf, EPFL Lausanne, \u00c9cole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure d\u2019Architecture de Versailles, and \u00c9cole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure d\u2019Architecture de Bordeaux.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fre\u0301de\u0301ric Druot<\/strong>\u00a0graduated in 1984 from the Ecole Nationale Superi\u00e9ure d\u2019Architecture de Bordeaux. In 1987, he founded the architectural agency Epinard Bleu, which received the Album de la Jeune Architecture in 1990.
