Villa Albertine is proud to promote the upcoming Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco exhibition, Manet & Morisot<\/em>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experience the first major exhibition dedicated to the artistic exchange at the heart of\u00a0 Impressionism, and the friendship between Impressionist artists Edouard Manet and Berthe Morisot.\u00a0 We invite you to visit the Legion of Honor to experience these groundbreaking artists and explore themes of intercultural friendship and the reciprocal artistic exchange.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until now, their story has been told primarily as one of Manet\u2019s influence on his female colleague and occasional model, Morisot. Manet & Morisot<\/em> sets the record straight, exploring these artists\u2019 mutual influence and parallel evolution. From their first encounter and Manet\u2019s impact early in Morisot’s career to his final years, when he increasingly emulated her subjects, colors, and even her free, open brushstrokes, this exhibition invites you on a journey through a friendship that shaped the course of modern art.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experience the friendship of two artists at the heart of the Impressionist movement: \u00c9douard Manet and Berthe Morisot   
 
Join Emily Beeny –  Manet Expert and the exhibition\u2019s originating curator \u2013 for a lecture exploring the related highlights in FAMSF\u2019s permanent collection. This month’s discussion will explore the mutual influence and inspiration between Manet and Morisot, whose rich and multifaceted relationship spanned that of colleagues and collaborators, painter and model, collectors of each other\u2019s work, and, following Morisot\u2019s marriage to Manet\u2019s brother, family.

Friends, colleagues, collaborators, and competitors: these are just some of the ways one might consider the connections between \u00c9douard Manet and Berthe Morisot, Manet and Edgar Degas, and Degas and Mary Cassatt. Don\u2019t miss an illuminating conversation featuring leading curators of recent exhibitions that have explored these three relationships for a wide-ranging discussion of mutual influence and inspiration within the Impressionist circle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Featured speakers include Kimberly Jones, Curator of 19th-Century French Paintings at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., and originating curator of Degas\/Cassatt<\/em>; Ashley Dunn, Associate Curator of Prints and Drawings at The Met and co-curator of the acclaimed Manet\/Degas<\/em> exhibition; and Emily A. Beeny, Chief Curator of the Legion of Honor and Barbara A. Wolfe Curator in Charge of European Paintings at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. A specialist in French paintings and drawings of the 17th\u201319th centuries, Beeny has led major acquisitions, overseen the reinstallation of the Legion\u2019s Baroque galleries, and previously held curatorial appointments at the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Norton Simon Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
