Albertine Translation laureate (2022) Jacqueline Feldman will be presenting her book On Your Feet. A Novel in Translations<\/em>, at McNally Jackson Seaport on March 27, 2024. The novel, published by Dispersed Holdings, features a story by Nathalie Quintane, translated from the French by Ms. Feldman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the Book<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Combining fiction in translation, travelogue, essay, the postcard, and a scholarly monograph, On Your Feet<\/em> tells the story of a provincial city\u2019s victory over the far-right figure, Marine Le Pen. It is the story of a cat-owning local poet\u2019s valiant resistance and of a US woman \u2014 let us say an American girl \u2014 making her own, Joan-of-Arc-like entrance into the fray. This novel in translations slows time to take, with precision, the imprint of a moment in French and world history. It was a moment when fascist speech could be distinguished, still, from the great mass, separated out \u2014 leaving the moment, like the language, open to intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Making contributions to the theory and practice of translation, which has been considered an applied linguistics, On Your Feet<\/em> is a searching theorization of the politics of literature. What it offers, to readers of both languages or either, is a new kind of applied literature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This work received support for excellence in publication and translation from Albertine Translation<\/a>, a program created by Villa Albertine.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the Authors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jacqueline Feldman<\/strong>\u2019s writing has appeared in The Paris Review<\/em> Daily, 3:AM Magazine, Triple Canopy, and The White Review<\/em>. Born in 1990 in Connecticut, she lives in Massachusetts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nathalie Quintane<\/strong>, the author of dozens of books, is regarded in France as \u201cone of the major experimental poets of her generation.\u201d Other English translations of her work include Joan Darc<\/em> and Tomatoes<\/em>. Born in 1964 in Paris, she lives in Digne-les-Bains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
