As part of the Longueurs d’ondes Festival<\/a>, L\u00e9a Hirschfeld (French-American) and Susie Armitage (US) will share their experiences with the New York podcasting industry this Friday, February 9 at the Quartz in Brest, France from 2:00pm to 3:00pm (Paris time). The discussion will be moderated by Clea Chakraverty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 2023 Villa Albertine resident, L\u00e9a Hirschfeld participated in Sounds of New York, a program created by the Villa and Albertine Foundation, in partnership with Spotify, Radio France, RFI (France M\u00e9dias Monde), SACD, Institut fran\u00e7ais, INA, Ausha and Paradiso Media, to promote French podcasts in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00e9a Hirschfeld<\/a> explores disability through the prism of intimate life stories. From a personal exploration to a life project, convinced that our societies will grow through shared experiences, she nourishes her approach through writing, photography, and podcasting. In 2021, she self-produced D\u00e9cal\u00e9s<\/a><\/em>, a podcast featuring discussions with people who live directly or indirectly with disability. In 2023, she opened up her podcast to American stories during a touring residency across the United States with Villa Albertine. This new chapter in English, on air since December 2023, is entitled D\u00e9cal\u00e9s – Out of Sync<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Susie Armitage<\/a> is a freelance editor, writer, and producer based in New York. She edited Project Brazen and PRX’s Peabody Award-nominated podcast series Kabul Fallin<\/em>g<\/a>, which tells the story of what happened when the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan in 2021. Other recent projects include The Professor<\/a><\/em>, a narrative series about the Sicilian mafia and art crime; Resistance<\/em>, a show about how Ukrainians are resisting the Russian invasion; Ritually<\/em>, a first-person exploration of wellness and spirituality; and The Decision Coach<\/a><\/em>, an Audible original that helps guests make the big decisions they need to move forward in their lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, she was BuzzFeed’s global editor-in-chief. She has worked and traveled extensively in Russia, teaching English in Ukraine and then reporting from Moscow for NPR.
