On Sunday, March 23, in celebration of “La Francophonie” (the French-speaking world), the French-English Dual-Language Program Liaison Committee of PS 58 – The Carroll School proudly presents its third annual event featuring a day of free screenings of French films, highlighting diverse and culturally enriching cinema from around the French-speaking world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first edition of the PS 58 Francophone Film Festival in March 2023.<\/p><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This year, the festival features 14 short and two feature length films thanks to Villa Albertine, Institut Fran\u00e7ais, and the F\u00eate du Court-M\u00e9trage 2025<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event is free and open to all. All films will be in French with English subtitles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9:00 AM<\/strong>: Film Cycle Under the Sky, On the Earth<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the F\u00eate du Court-M\u00e9trage 2025<\/em>, the Institut Fran\u00e7ais presents four short films that combine poetry and adventure. They seek to spark curiosity, offering a look at the living and encouraging the exploration of nature through inspiring adventures. (30min., R\u00e9union-France-Switzerland; recommended for ages 4+).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10:30 AM: <\/strong>En sortant de l’\u00e9cole<\/strong><\/strong> <\/em>– Collection of 10 Short Films on Friendship<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discover 10 new talents in animation from the best French animation schools as well as different perspectives on poetry here at the children’s level. \u201cAll the greatness of this world is not worth a good friend,\u201d Voltaire (3min., France; recommended for ages 6+).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

12:00 PM: <\/strong>The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales<\/strong><\/em> by Benjamin Renner & Patrick Imbert<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The countryside isn\u2019t always as calm and peaceful as it\u2019s made out to be, and the animals on this farm are particularly agitated: a fox who mothers a family of chicks, a rabbit who plays the stork, and a duck who wants to be Santa Claus (1h23, France-Belgium; recommended for ages 6+).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2:00 PM: Short Film Mussels and Fries<\/em><\/strong> by Nicolas Hu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

No\u00e9e, a nine-year-old girl, just joined her mother on the island of B\u00e9nac\u2019h in Brittany. She discovers that all of the kids here have known each other forever and that they all know how to sail. And No\u00e9e wants to try! But her mother doesn\u2019t have the means to sign her up for sailing class. (26 min., France; recommended for ages 6+)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3:00 PM: Short Film<\/strong> Les Astres Immobiles<\/em><\/strong> by No\u00e9mi Gruner and Anna Fr\u00e9gon\u00e8se<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chenghua has to make a presentation on space with her best friend. But she can\u2019t find the time to prepare as her parents constantly ask her to translate everything for them. (26 min., France; recommended for ages 8+)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4:00 PM: Belle and S\u00e9bastien: Next Generation<\/em> by Pierre Cor\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

10-year-old Sebastien reluctantly spends his vacation in the mountains with his grandmother and aunt. He is to help them with the sheep, hardly an exciting prospect for a city boy like him… but that is without considering his encounter with Belle, a huge dog mistreated by her owner. Ready to do anything to fight injustice and to protect his new-found friend, Sebastien will spend the craziest summer of his life.
